So I was playing a old game for Nintendo called Country Kongs, and I thought the graphics looked pretty good, even for todays standards of platformers.

No, not really.
They're good for when they came out but not for 2015.
It's outstanding by SNES standards. It still holds up today, although it's a little muddy looking compared to more recent 2D platformers. Diddy's Dong Quest and Dick-See Dong's Double Trouble look much better.
There aren't many 2D platformers that use prerendered sprites so there's not much to compare it to.
I don't know why you're even asking, it's pixel clear that those graphics ain't got shit compared to what we got today.
Ah dang, I must have a case of the nostalgias!
compared to the indie turds that come out these days, those graphics are fantastic.

lol. That made me laugh.

That's kind of what I was getting at
Yes. It looks fucking great for a Super Nintendo game.
CGI 3D to 2D sprites have been around since Sonic The Hedgehog in 1991.
And yes, the Donkey Kong Country games did have the best 8-bit 2D graphics for the Super NES.
A truly prophetic sig...
I realize this thread is satire, but I honestly don't mind those gfx.
brains.

They're pretty good considering the era the original DKC trilogy arrived

Gameplay is what's really important, it's not all about graphics, am I right mate?
Yes it's good. I believe the only reason people would think otherwise is because it's not in HD thus it looks more pixelated.

They're pretty shitty...
The only graphics that don't age are the cell shaded kind, like Jet Set Radio as a prime example. As those type of graphics were never great, they were worse than other graphics at the time but they instead have a sort of style to them which works just as good as they originally did for games using that kind of graphics now.
Making "the best graphics" will always mean your graphics will become dated by the time the next "best graphics" comes along the following year or whatever.
Also needs to be pointed out that making "8 bit tribute" type games don't look good. They look aged and shit. Why? BECAUSE THEY ARE FUCKING 20+ YEARS OLD YOU IMBECILE. It is the same as the above paragraph back then these were the "best graphics" for the time, and the time now is 20 years later! Stop pretending you are "making a tribute" or whatever bullshit reason you want to give, and come out and just own up to being lazy and not wanting to work hard on the graphics. Stop lying about it.
Yeah they still look fucking amazing ,especially if you look at the prerendered sprites made in the 90s.
It's probably shit compared to today's graphics but personally I find them appealing and easy to understand. This matters more.
Excellent graphics for that time. I like them in a retro way.
I still find a great appeal in the graphics of some of the best SNES games. Chrono Trigger, DKC1, 2 & 3, Earthbound, Super Metroid and Super Mario World are all games that have great graphics in my opinion. They were great back then, and they still have great stylistic value.
the art style and aesthetic do, it just needs to be cleaned up abit. Smooth out the lines and all. As it is now the edges are jagged and the pixels stick out really badly.
When a game has good graphics when it comes out, the graphics are still good no matter what year.

Only if you played the game starting from the time that it was considered new.
For me, the original versions of Max Payne, Deus Ex, Quake, Unreal, Half-Life, Realms of the Haunting, Carmageddon and Doom still look real to me.

I still have fond memories of those old graphics. They do still live up to this day. I remember playing it the first time and thinking how fresh the graphics were. It still looks good to me these days.
ah yes... sprites... looking back, mid-late 1990s polygons were positively hideous in comparison.

Platformers work better with 2D graphics.
They pretty much handled it good even to this day, but DKC2 had a slighter smooth feel to it than DKC rendered sprites.
I wished they had that smooth animation style like Yoshi's Island.
They look pretty decent. Considering that graphics in most games now are the end all of the focus put into it, which I rather dislike. Games to me seem to be getting smaller in some ways due to the high amount of time needed for the high quality animations that triple a gaming has a hard on for. Imo as long as you can tell what they are supposed to represent, they are good quality graphics in any year.
