*DON'T SCROLL DOWN YET*
Read and reply to this first post before seeing other answers for the most genuine results.

Good evening, Newgrounds.

Tonight I bring to you an idea that is almost inexorably determined to fail, for it requires some degree of seriousness and honesty.

Yeah, I know, not the best place to find that, but this is just for fun.

Here is the experiment: reply to this thread and list the first ten negative behaviors, traits, or actions you think of, then the first ten positive behaviors, traits, or actions. Also if you are comfortable doing so, say which country you are from.

I am deeply interested in the idea of cultural and moral relativity. I've gone over it extensively back in my college days, and continue to see it in action on a daily basis. What one person or culture may deem horribly inappropriate, the next could see as normal human tradition. Seeing which come to mind first also reveals a lot about their importance and relevance to you.

So let's have it, Newgrounds.

Here's
mine
(reply

you

this
so
you
don't
contaminate
your
results):

Negative:
1. Smoking
2. Stealing
3. Rape
4. Bullying
5. Mental/physical/economic/etc. spousal abuse
6. Deprivation (for children especially)
7. Religious brainwashing
8. Political mudslinging
9. Lying
10. Cheating (in a relationship)

Positive:
1. Feeding the homeless
2. Adopting children
3. Spreading good messages through media
4. Being a good parent
5. Holding companies accountable for their actions
6. Voting (for president) honestly and without pressure
7. Acceptance of differences (moral relativity!)
8. Helping those less fortunate when you can (kinda overlaps with 1 I guess)
9. Being kind on a daily basis
10. Cleaning up after yourself (not leaving messes, physical or emotional)

I'm from New York, You Sofa.
Interesting note - I started struggling at 7 for good, but had no problem firing off 10 bad. Maybe I'm just a cynical, judgmental ass?

I'm interested that you put honor in the negative category. Are you thinking in terms of hyperobsession with honor, as in old Japanese culture? Especially since you seem to have typically conflicting traits listed back to back.

Also, I think these lists paint an interesting picture of the people who write them.

I messed up? How?

Negative:
Using more than one parking space.
Turning without using a turn signal.
Eating the last X.
Using buzzwords like "Web 2.0" or "The Cloud".
Using retard words like "Hashtag", "Swag", or "YOLO" unironically.
Trying to make any sort of conversation in the restroom beyond "Nice weather."
Arguing against well-established facts without offering any proof.
Not having the courtesy to give a guy a reach-around when you're fucking him in the ass.
Any sort of "Social Justice" nonsense.
Putting your fingers on someone's screen.

Positive:
Being logical.
Being historically, scientifically, linguistically, etc. well versed.
If someone asks whether you have any hobbies, you don't give a bullshit answer like "Oh. I like to watch Netflix."
You have something that you're actually passionate about even if it's just fingerpainting or drawing dicks.
Records all videos in landscape format.
Doesn't forward me useless emails or "share" bullshit articles with me.
Reliable
Honest.
Hard working.
Has a high post count on the Newgrounds BBS.

Edit: I'd like to add "Being a massive fucking idiot and/or dick" to my negative list.

Hmm. Don't know much about either of them but I listed rape 'cuz it's a huge problem in NY.

EDIT: Okay, well, both USA so that says something. I think the U.S. puts a big emphasis on rape as a whole.

Some Asian cultures, especially in the recent past, both saw rape as a lesser evil and regularly ignored it as an immediate and larger social issue.

Awful, frequent, but ultimately still relative.

Negative Traits (in no order)

1. Dishonesty/no loyalty
2. Violence
3. (Blind) Hatred
4. Ignorance
5. Confusion/Indecisiveness

Positive Traits

1. Courtesy
2. Honesty
3. Respect/Self respect
4. Persistence(ethics, plans, etc)
5. Understanding

Note : I only scrolled down to check if I wasn't the only one doing this, also, listing 10 for each category is too much of a pain to me.

Hmm interesting that you list confusion as a negative trait.

So, one of the things we talked about in my WWL class was the existence of a third category: neutrals. There's good, bad, and then things that people perceive as completely amoral - that is, without any weight or significance on either side. Things like confusion and anything out of one's control were common in that list (with some unfair stereotypes as exceptions, such as mental disabilities in the US).

Awful, frequent, but ultimately still relative.

U.S. culture likes to immediately blame the victim. Asking questions like "what were you wearing?" or "how much did you drink?" and then finally closing with "you asked for it."

It just saddens me how poorly this crime is being issued globally.

Selfishness
Hatred
Laziness

Doing something in the name of honor means you only care about what people think of you from the outside. Honoring your parents, your country, or yourself means that you hope to project an external image that garners respect, but when that means hiding the truth or following a cultural norm at the expense of someone else, it's selfish, petty, and rotten. Even if what you're doing is harmless, I have no respect for someone that behaves a certain way only for appearance. In contrast, behaving toward a certain set of ideals specifically because that's the person you want to be is what I consider personal integrity, which I put in the positive list.

I messed up? How?

I didn't describe any actual crimes or behavior, just personality traits.

You can not judge cultural premise simply by the miniscule variable of a few individuals, the variables are merely infinite at the lesser form, although I do commend your appreciation for cultural progression, the same way mass hysteria occurs is relative
