Putting this up for mixing feedback. This is the Orphan Keeper cover I'd been working on for quite a bit; what I'm about to link is the preliminary instrumental.
Feedback would be appreciated, especially from those who know the genre. @Lich @MetalRenard @Step? I'm especially worried about those parts which sound heavy because I need to add vocals over it -- and I'm talking vocal layering, not merely one track.

Current progress with the Orphan Keeper cover. With the chaos leading up to the asylum appeal, I've been able to do so little recording -- and it turns out that the voice in the first half of the song also has a bit more gravitas because of everything I've been going through.

I would suppose that it's fitting that the first half really got the waterworks flowin'. It's a beautiful composition thus far. Hope to hear the rest of it when it's fully complete. It's really great.

That is really good to hear! It's one of my favourite compositions from you. It's almost laughable how much better your sound quality has improved since then. Even the singing and vocal harmony syncing has seen improvements. Holy crap. This is great.
This version still has more instruments coming, right? Without the drums/strings it lacks in energy compared to the original, but I'm not sure if that was intended. Piano sample is a bit brighter here than it was in the original, which I'm in two minds about. I think I'd prefer a sample with a softer touch. Also, I really don't care much for the electric guitar (still FL Slayer I presume?). Think you can get a real guitarist for it?

I agree about the piano sample; I'd prefer a mellower, truer-to-the-original Steinway sound. Mellow lows and mids, and reasonably bright highs. When I next check into the studio (Soundskills) I'll see if that can be done.

Considering that the original reminded him of Nightwish, albeit badly mixed, I was counting on him to get that feel.) What are your suggestions on the guitar sound?
Bear in mind that we've still got supplementary vocals, guitar parts (there's another friend who does a Claptonesque guitar in a lot of pieces), and bass guitar and drums.

If you need me to run a MIDI through East/West Pianos, just hit me up! The Steinway D or Bosendorfer sample in that library would do wonders to it I think.

...oops, my bad! It was giving me FL Slayer vibes haha.
Well, the guitar playing itself was good, but to me it sounds too rough and grating. I feel like a warmer, bassier sound (akin to this, perhaps?) would meld a lot better with the track.
Oh, also, I've listened back to it again and noticed a slight syncing issue with the "t" sound at 4:10. Might want to have that checked out.
