Conflicting responses. Seems to vary state to state. Haven't even cracked overseas yet.
Didn't know that they had separate prisons. Either way, I'm guessing that they would separate depending on current gender rather than a gender that they had a long time ago.

I remember an episode of beyond scared straight, and there was one prison that had a section for "alternative lifestyle". So, essentially transgender was place there.
However, city i live in, what you classified "legally". Pre op, sex at birth, post op, whatever you are legally classified at that point.

Not sure, but I would hope that they go to men's prison. Just because you've declared yourself "female" and filed all the legal paperwork to be considered a "female" does not make you a "female" in the biological sense of the term. You are still biologically male, no matter what you do. Males are stronger than females (not being sexist here, just citing a scientific fact) and they belong in male prison. You put a "transgender" male-turned-female into women's prison, he will have a distinct advantage over other inmates there who are biologically female, and that is bound to cause problems.

In all normal countries transgendered people are shot, thus the problem you're presenting occurs only in countries that don't deserve sovereignty in the first place.
