4.07 / 5.00 13,902 ViewsIt seems impossible to stop. There was probably never a time in history when a guy couldn't find a prostitute if he sought one hard enough.
It's also somebody's body. How can you say, "There is (practically) no limit to what you can do sexually, as long as you don't do it for money"? Money works its way into everything, including sex.
If it weren't taboo, then maybe people who engage in prostitution would be able to get help (if they need it) because people are willing talk about it. Discourse instead of automatic shaming.
I have never rented a prostitute.
It's legal in a district in Nevada I believe. As for if prostitution should be legalized, I don't know. If it was, there would be a need for a fuck ton of new laws. You wouldn't want sex workers within a five mile radius of an elementary school right? Would STD testing be mandatory? Could a 'john' sue for contracting an STD?
And if prostitution was legal, the US government would be a de facto pimp. I don't know how that would make me feel.
Do people just not see the Political forum or are they just trying to get responses by random people that can't be taken seriously?
Also, you are wicked guilty just by saying "I never rented a prostitute." We have yet to claim such a thing and now we can insult you for it.
To be honest, prostitution is just a shitty, dehumanizing way of making money, and no system of surveillance/laws can prevent it so instead, maybe it can only be regulated in a safe/non-hazardous way because it will always, always be around.
But just because people can buy into prostitution doesn't mean prostitution has to mean you're always getting something out of it. Anyone that has actually done it, I want you to know - masturbation is free and you just got ripped off by a fleshy cumbucket
No. As long as both participants are consenting adults and they aren't spreading diseases, there shouldn't be a problem.
"Selling is legal, fucking is legal-- why isn't selling fucking legal!?"

Only if they taxed it. It could be profitable. so why not?
They would have to create new laws surrounding it to accommodate prostitution.
yes, prostitution should be illegal because it's degrading towards women and is often involved with illegal human trafficking. prostitutes are rarely selling their bodies of their own volition and whatever token money they make for degrading themselves they usually don't get to keep. there's nothing positive about prostitution and i mean this in the most offensive way possible

What if the prostitute is a man?

what if it was regulated by the government>?

Lol, nicely put, but it's just like the old joke, they give it away, and yet still have it (pussy/tang/taco meat) afterwards.
As for rentals, I can't admit anything, but perhaps the term sugar daddy applies? Certainly I've done it here on NG, if you consider the art commissions I've gotten in return... guess that makes me bi lol

Yeah, this post should probably be there... I try and turn a blind eye to politics, but somehow... it does keep cropping up, more every year.

Stephen King once called it 'accessorized masturbation'. I guess it's only a rip off if you don't value the person you're with, and don't some 'meaningful' memory or experience away from the 'rental' of said 'tang.

Exactly! Just because they hire a videographer to document the crime... I guess if you submit and document everything with the porn registry in California someplace, it's nationally legit? I bet some towns have laws, where porn studios have to register or get a permit to operate, probably someone from the health department - kitchens, bathrooms and beds on porn sets lol

I agree with this to an extent. It should be illegal to use a prostitute but not to be one. Dude breaks the law because he wants to get laid. Prostitute breaks the law because she finds herself in a shitty situation and sees no other choice but to sell herself. Seems wrong to punish someone for that. And she should have bodily autonomy anyway.
While women are free to do whatever they want with their bodies unfortunately other people sometimes want to make the decisions for them. That is not good. The only way to stop that is through government regulation of prostitution, whether by state or nationwide, and who's going to support that anyway, rural-ass Nevada notwithstanding?
While making prostitution illegal doesn't do anything to stop the corruption, regulation would be a difficult sell to people who, again, do not live in rural Nevada. It would be extremely costly to do it and while I can't really say for sure if the cost would be evened out by the revenue, I'd predict that it would not be, given the social stigma and the fact that you'd most likely have your name in a number of computers by just visiting a brothel. I don't think it would be a very popular thing, at least for a very long time
I see no win in any situation. Blerrgh
Sweden has taken a clever approach to the problem of prostitution/trafficking. Selling sex isn't illegal, buying is. The explanation they given for this that they want to protect the girls as much as possible as most of the time they're the victim in one way or another.
As for my opinion on full legalization, I think under right circumstance it got could be possible. I mean the sex market extends to almost all corners of the spectrum except for the actual real deal (although I've heard of clubs that people buy for to have an "experiences" with other peoples", and shit the working condition in those areas aren't perfect either.

Toi, le concorde qui n’existe plus.
No. It is perfectly reasonable to exchange work for money.
It should not be illegal but neither should drugs, gambling, fight clubs, and tons of other stuff.
If all participants are willing and no one outside of those who wish to participate get hurt, then it straight up shouldn't be illegal. These are called victimless crimes for a reason.
Example: Driving while on drugs should definitely be illegal because you are endangering people who are not willing participants. Taking drugs but then not driving or operating heavy machinery and just keeping it to yourself shouldn't be illegal because at most you'd just be endangering yourself.
So for prostitution, it should be illegal to force anyone into it. That definitely should be illegal. But if someone willingly wants to do that with their own body and other people willingly want to pay for that, all parties involved are willing, so it should be legal in that case.
Unfortunately much of the laws are fascist and religion-based despite there is supposed to be separation of church and state.
If you use "salty" for anything other than salinity, I will instantly think less of you.
This food is salty. -- acceptable | Why are you salty at me? -- *facepalm*
No. There isn't really a good reason for it to be illegal.
The "protecting women" thing is bullshit. Any woman who is forced into prostitution is already doing so under the table. Of course, she can't go to the authorities because what she's been doing is illegal. How is she going to explain her situation without incriminating herself? If prostitution were legal, she would have the law on her side.
Making prostitution illegal does more to hurt women than legalizing it ever would.
OK, now that everyone's go-to answer has been debunked, I'd like to hear a legitimate argument against making prostitution legal. One that doesn't use the above "hurting women!" argument, and preferably one which doesn't talk about "Mah bible!".

It might as well be legal, there is really no harm being done and it's been around for as far as human history goes
No, It should be highly regulated.

I was originally going to post this on the Political forum but I didn't want people to take it too seriously. I'd rather laugh once or twice while getting the opinions of the masses than read a bunch of highfalutin droll from three or four politicos.

Yes, it should be illegal. If you think you've lost your virginity to a prostitute, then don't get your hopes up. They don't count.
