I'm 15, I have 370 YouTube subscribers, and I've recently started making Text-to-Speech videos where Microsoft David---one of the default voices for Windows 8---reads hilarious Windows errors in one series, and in another series he looks at (reads) ridiculous signs, menus, instructions, etc.
I think that Newgrounds looks like a really cool website. I really like the game Castle Crashers for XBOX 360.

I don't see what's so bad about "I'm new here" topics, because in my eyes, it's kind of a "first post, just saying hi" thing, where we know almost nobody on the forums, and we'd like to know some people here. I personally didn't know anyone on Newgrounds before I joined yesterday. None of my friends are on here, so I'm meeting new people---a fresh new start on my fresh new account on a fresh new concept---game-making.
So, if you ask me what the point of "I'm new here" forum threads are, I would say it's a method new users use to introduce themselves on public forums.

It's just a way users introduce themselves and express themselves for the first time, basically telling people a little about you. I would personally never start on a forum by lurking around and posting here and there.

The best way to learn about users is by reading their posts.
Well, I guess you can say that with you being out of character and being all sunshine and rainbows on your first post, and then you shed it and become your real character the longer you're on the site. But I'm never known to be dishonest.
Let's just say that either way has its ups and downs. This is just the way I've been doing it for a long time.

Everyone can be all bright and happy and saying "you've made this day special just by being you" or whatever, but you don't get to see the ugly sides of things until you start posting for real.
The way I see it is just a way to say hi for the first time on a site with a bunch of people you don't know. I don't really find any ways in which it's "unpleasant".
