I'm preparing for the 2nd Annual User Icon Battle since it's the god sue edition. For now I'm Gamera, but that may change because I'm still not 100% sure. So many characters to chose from....

But normally my icon is that of a Shiny Rayquaza because that is my favorite Pokemon.

Also the only reason I haven't changed my icon ever is because I have never found another one that appeals to me more than my current one. Though I have changed it to the original version of my icon (before screwing with the colors) ONE time. For like 5 minutes.

I just assume people use something that they like as their prof pic/avatar, which gives everyone else an idea of the things they like, so while it may not give a wholly accurate picture of the person, it at least tells a little bit about them

I know exactly what you're saying! If someone has a friendly avatar/profile pic online, their words seem to have an overall wash of optimism or courtesy. If someone has a photo that seems to be dark, gloomy or angry, a lot of that they say seems to have a bit of a negative and unfriendly tone to it.

But only in my mind. It's just the way I read it.

People do seem to have decided I am the T-rex in my picture. Fortunately it is an awesome T-rex who's happy and inquisitive.
More than anything else I tend to view someones picture as slanted by their personality as I know them. Scenery or a characters face can take on different meanings. Of course if someone goes out of their way to have a deliberately off-putting picture then that speaks volumes about their personality right there.
