So i just found out my 9 year old brother is being bullied in school, so i told my dad about it and he said he's willing to change his school branch to a much nicer one (my brother went to this branch before and he was completely fine), before switching to this branch my brother would not try and fake illness to avoid school, but ever since he switched branches to cut fuel costs my brother has been trying to avoid school and me and dad found out that it was because he was bullied, so here's the issue, my mother thinks that my 9 YEAR OLD little brother should learn to protect himself, and to save fuel costs he should remain in the branch he's bullied in because protecting yourself is the "law of the universe" she says, i am completely baffled by her ignorance and malevolence, thoughts?

Fuck, I was bullied until I started throwing fists.
If the school isn't going to do anything then maybe get your brother into boxing lessons.

I think that depends on the type of bullying. Yeah if he's getting his teeth kicked in, get him out, or preferably have authority in the school do something about it... But if it's mild verbal attacks then why not teach him that what they say doesn't matter, instead of having him flee from it. It's not like those things will get any better later. People are dicks. That's just life.

Its physical harm, not verbal, ganging up on him, no amount of boxing lessons will make my brother take down 4 guys, he isnt mike tyson.

First of all the title is terribly misleading, bullying is a far, far cry away from child abuse.
Second, I fail to see why him being nine exempts him from learning to stand up for himself and basic self defense. Unless your father is going to do something crazy and buy him a gun, teaching him self-defense can be quite constructive, he can gain self confidence, and many other good things; as long as he understands that violence should be avoided if possible it's generally a good idea.
I'm saying this from my own personal experience, but the only person that can solve your problems is yourself. He may be nine, but will be grow up eventually.

Your mother sounds like a messed up bitch but she's kinda right, once he starts defending himself they'll stop picking on him.
You as the older brother could teach him how to throw some punches and kicks (if your family has the money for it then put him in martial arts classes) so he can learn how to fight back. Teach him not to use it for personal gain, he should only have to use force to defend himself, otherwise he might end up developing into a bully himself.

Martial arts can be a great outlet for 2 things...
His want to be accepted by someone, (martial arts class and instructors)
To have an outlet that he can express himself in a calm environment where there is an allowance for violence
I would not suggest that he takes true combat style of self defense, but maybe something more... lay back
karate
wing chun
aikido
kendo or kumdo
jeet kune do
tai chi
Any of these are the more la back and focus more on centering the human mind first which is great for the outlet and the pain that he surly must be feeling while being bullied, and then they teach you how to channel your being into a form of self defense

Bullying doesn't necessarily stop when you switch schools, bullying can happen anywhere. Hell, when I was in 3rd or 4th grade, my teacher bullied me by humiliating me infront of my class, and I think I was the same age as your brother.

Would it be possible to contact the bullies's parents? They might throw you shit for trying to 'educate their kids' and 'yarrr my kid is an angel he perfect blahblah' but it's worth trying at least.

Tell him that if he ever wants to be left alone he's got to kick some ass, even if he won't win, he's got to show that he's not just going to sit there and get ganged up on. I was bullied into homeschooling and I regret it now, I'm probably going to go back to normal school for the last couple of years of high school, don't let that happen to him.

Maybe not but if he knocks at least one kids teeth out the rest will probably back off most bullies don't like when people fight back they want week prey. When I was bullied I fought back I may have still got my ass kicked but they usually backed off they knew I would fight back.

lol I only fight when people try to fight me. since i don't have a smart mouth i have my fists. but i get in trouble when i hit people who didn't hit me. they yelp for the teacher so i either put them down or get in trouble. when people say smart things to me i bite my lip. because all i got is my fists and I'll get in trouble.. so yeah... ;/ even name calling won't help..

Maybe if he stopped being an unlikeable bitch he'd have some friends instead of everyone hating him. Well, either that or he needs to fuck someone up bad enough that people are scared to even go near him. Since we've already concluded that he's a bitch,, though, it's obvious that he'll just keep having to deal with it. Switching schools over ”bullying”? Are you fucking serious? Your dad is in the right here.

I haven't taken self-defense, so I wouldn't know, but...
I feel like at nine years old, no self defense instructor would teach a kid something that could potentially cause serious harm to other kids. I could be completely wrong about all this, though. However, I feel like while learning self-defense is important, it's probably best to get your brother started a little later...
If he's had positive experiences at the other school with no bullying, then maybe that's the best solution, for now.

I really don't think there's anything that can be done about physical bullying in this generation. Teachers are so hypersensitive about who the next school shooter is going to be, and the victims of bullying are actually the ones that get the most scrutiny because it's assumed they have a bunch of pent-up anger. Rather than helping the students, teachers treat them as if they're already victims.
More importantly, it's that there's teacher intervention at all. Kids can frequently fix a dispute with a fist-fight, but when adults get involved they sit the kids down and have a bullshit talk that doesn't help anybody. Why? Because adults and kids occupy two different worlds. When an adult brings two kids into the adult world to talk about a problem, it holds no weight in the kid world once those adults turn away.
In a majority of situations, even if you're outnumbered, putting up a fight against bullies will make them more hesitant to beat you up. When adults try and step into prevent violence, 9 times out of 10 it's the kid that retaliated that gets in trouble.
If I offer to help you in a post, PM me to get it. I often forget to revisit threads.

You have a point ,ill tell him to fight back as hard as he can. He is a pretty tough kid, atleast i like to think so, im much older than him and he can hit me pretty hard, i hope this builds his character.

I think any topic about bullying, people should take their head out of their fucking arses and realize that bullying can be very broad, from teasing to savage beatings, and would require a different response depending on the situation.

Yet they all involve some degree of violence.
From a firm slap on the buttcheeks to assert one's dominance over the other to a shotgun blast to the face.
