Ha, these kinds of threads are always good for a laugh.

Much like the Cowboys, people love to shit on Texas, why? Jealousy of course. You see son, we have one the highest growth rates in the country. People are coming here in droves from other states because we have affordable housing, excellent cities, and beautiful scenery in rural areas. Not to mention our economy is on the rise, and we offer a massive amount of diversity depending on where you live from Houston, to Austin, to Fort Worth to El Paso to San Antonio.

While other states are losing money, hiking taxes, and charging absurd amounts for land/property/rent, we have affordable land, that we're constantly developing on because we have so much of it, and also cheap gas.

I'm such a damn proud Texan that it hurts, people think its cool to talk shit about the place they live and be like "yeah, the place I live sucks..." But I believe in having pride in your home. Strong principals are also a Texas thing. Anyways, I could just go on for days about it and never stop...did I answer your question?

It does seem like gas prices are cheaper down there. I was in Dallas Oct. 24-26 for Nightmare Nights and on the way out there was a station where it was $2.69/gal.

Screw the traffic though. One interchange there was insane:

The usual complaints about Texas are usually perpetuated by the media and TV shows (particularly Family Guy) as some sort of backwards mix of the Old West and the Deep South, and while they do have that in Texas, it is far from the truth as a whole. Let's break down the stereotypes.

1. Texas is a hyper-conservative red state.

Truth: this is partly true, but it's far more liberal than people want to give credit to. Austin is one of the most liberal places in America, on par with the Pacific Northwest and New England. Also, Houston also leans to the left, but they have more sanity and don't whore themselves out on that like Austin does.

2. Everyone in Texas is a cowboy or Cowboys fan.

Truth: Absurd. When it comes to sports, Houston has a deep resentment towards Dallas, and it's a big deal when they beat them, which isn't that much. (At least in football) Also, the real cowboy tends to be either historical pieces, or live out in West Texas where there is tons of farmland.

3. Texas is poor, backwater state that has no sense of the outside world.

Truth: Having the 12th largest economy by GDP doesn't make you poor. Hell, if you look at Dallas, and to a lesser extent, Austin, they are some of the richest places out there, especially with all of the oil money. Speaking of oil, Houston is known as the "energy capital of the world" due to the fact that the largest energy companies in the world are headquartered there.

Also, Funimation, Sentai Filmworks and formerly ADV films are located in the Lone Star state as well. (Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston respectfully)

4. Texans love football and obsess over it.

Truth: well... They say that there are two seasons in Texas, football and spring football. But, it doesn't mean that other sports aren't represented well. If anything, Texas is pretty obsess about all sports, especially when their pro and college teams are good.

Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

I live in Texas, I have stayed in the Garland area, Dallas area, now currently the Fort Wort area. I love it a lot better than when I lived in Vermont. A lot of herion addicts in that northern state.

I love the south due to it's robust job market, vast culture. And the food here is non comparable. So goood...
