2014 World Series Discussion Thread 2014-10-21 20:33:02 Reply

I know baseball threads tends to struggle compared to more popular sports which is why Stanley Cup threads, NBA playoffs threads, Super Bowl threads and the Summer Olympic threads tends to go double digit pages. But still, being that this series will feature a sports media's nightmare as a pair of sub-90 wins wildcard teams will be meeting face to face and together have only one star that anyone would care about, there should be some interests for the wrong reason.

Anyway, it's the Giants vs. the Royals, who do you want to win and why?

Lastly, who do you think will win?

I had high hopes for the Cardinals but it seems like the Giants have it this year. The Royals are getting absolutely stomped right now and it's only the first inning.

The Royals are a nice Cinderally story and I want them to win this thing since they haven't been relevant in postseason play since the 1980s. I'll never root for the Giants again after what they did to the Reds two years ago in the postseason.

The Royals are looking shabby right now, but I still have faith in them.

It is only one game so naturally if the Walmart Royals loses, they just need to win tomorrow and they'll be back in the series.

Though I don't know much about these two baseball teams, I honestly think that the Royals stand a fair chance if they break their video game addiction. Either that, or they they really have just been training, practicing, and playing super shittily and they came up with a shoddy, fabricated excuse to give their fans a boost of confidence.

Also, one of their coaches is named Rusty Kuntz. I fucking love his parents for that.

So now, the Giants lit up that meat shield whom the media glorified as a "big game" pitcher for some reason and leads the series by a game.

I'm still not going to count out the Royals although their fans over the internet has, I mean if they can win tonight, they're back in the series.

Right now the Royals made a breakthrough against the Giants as they are now leading by three runs. As I mentioned before, if they can hold on to win this one, they're back in the series.

Peavy really blew it big time.

It makes me wonder why Shields is called a big game pitcher when he hasn't been known for winning big games at all. If he was as good as people say he is, then he wouldn't be with the low-tier teams like the Rays or Royals in the first place. Then again, it's the same media that predicted that RG3 or Greg Oden would be superstars in their respective leagues, but I digress.

I'm still not going to count out the Royals although their fans over the internet has, I mean if they can win tonight, they're back in the series.

It's no wonder why, the vast majority of them are band wagoners for a team that even in Kansas City are viewed as irrelevant. Time will tell if they are a flash in the pan or not, but frankly, teams that are one trick ponies like the Royals don't fare well come next year. It was kind of the same thing with the Rays and Rockies when they won the pennant only to get smoked by superior teams in the WS.

Actually, that's not entirely true. Caribbean countries like Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico (a U.S. Colony) play a lot of baseball along with Japan, Taiwan, Korea and even Canada and The Netherlands. (or at least the islands in the Caribbean) Also, Canada has their own team as well with the Toronto Blue Jays and until 10 years ago or so, the Montreal Expos, even if both are or were still owned by Americans, I think.

The World Series name is part of a bygone era, though in a way, it still does apply as there are many international players on both rosters, and MLB is widely regarded as the best league in the world.

So the Royals were able to take Game 3 and now lead the series 2-1. With that said, how did the Giants line up manage to make Guthrie look like a Cy Young award candidate? Then again Guthrie did pitched better than Shields had which tells you that much.

Well, the fourth game is on right now and it doesn't take long for Vogelsong to fall apart. The Walmart Royals are doing quite a job so far, if they win then they may have no regrets no matter what happens to them afterward.

Series is now tied at 2 apiece, at the very least it's going back to Kansas City for all the marbles. Though, considering how their bullpen got rocked tonight, the Royals may have lost their only advantage they have against the Giants now.

Of course, I say that and everything else decides to actually show up for KC, so we shall see in the next game.

It should be interesting to see whether or not Meat Shield will be able to bounce back from his horrific "Big Game" performance.

Then again, I think he was called "Big Game James" because he was mistaken for a deer and you know the look he has when facing the headlights.

Looks like the meat shield didn't get lit up this time, good for him but Bum did it better and is poised to finish off the Walmart Royals for tonight to take the 3-2 lead.

Keep in mind, after tonight the Giants still need one more win to finish it off so there's still a chance for the Royals to pull through or at least push the series to seven games.

Maybe it's high time that they remove the "Big Game" label from Shields, considering that he's constantly coming up short over and over again. He's no longer with the Rays and that buffoon Joe Maddon, not that they won much of anything beyond a fluke WS appearance.

Speaking of Maddon, he opted out of the Rays. I'm pretty sure that the next place he goes to won't put up with his silly antics if he manages like he did the last couple of years, unless it's the Cubs, where they are the punchline.

Keep in mind, after tonight the Giants still need one more win to finish it off so there's still a chance for the Royals to pull through or at least push the series to seven games.

Mets in '86 and Cardinals a few years ago came back from 3-2 deficits, so the Giants should be prepared for anything, but I don't think the series is going past Tuesday.

If you don't think the Royals can whip the piss out of the Giants at home with Bumgarner not pitching, you're just being silly. This series is destined to go to seven games. Trust me.

If Bumgarner (hee hee!) pitched every inning of every game, the Giants would take the entire series without a hitch. That said, he may well have pitched his last game of the series tonight. I'm biased, being from KC, but I'm still convinced that the Royals will take the next two games.

Game 6 has just started and so far it's not looking good with Peavy vomiting his way out of the game itself. Better hope that it's not too late for Petit to control the damage before it gets out of hand, that's for certain.

I didn't expect this to go seven but here we are.

This should be an interesting game.

Should the Giants start Bumgarner on Game 7? It seems risky and besides, even if he pitches well, nothing will matter if the offense don't score.

The guy is, from a statistical standpoint, one of the greatest pitchers to have ever pitched in the World Series. If he's healthy enough for it, they should ABSOLUTELY use him.

It's a tight game so far, it may go either way, lets see if the Giants can hold this one. I mean keep in mind, the Royals have come back from a bigger deficit than this so you can't count them out just yet.

What a series, the Royals put up a valiant effort but in the end, the Giants prevailed thanks to their obvious World Series MVP, Madison Bumgarner.

The Royals still deserve respect for what they did, I mean whoever thought they would make it that far let alone almost winning it? The last active member of Oakland's former "Big 3" couldn't even get out of the second inning and was in the process of getting lit up along with his opposite which tells you something.

Kudos to both sides but the slightly better team won.

Giants win.

A rather gutty effort by the Royals, but they basically spent all of their proverbial bullets in Game 6, and there was no way that the Giants were going to lose this game, not with all of the championship experience they had and especially with Bumgarner on the mound. Their 15 minutes of fame withered away with their bullpen, and most likely joining Colorado and Tampa Bay as one trick pony pennant champions.

Speaking of championships, is Barry Zito still on the Giants? If so, this would be his 3rd championship ring after leaving Oakland. {oops} He may have awful while he was in San Fran, but in terms of getting rings, he made the smartest decision in his career to do so.
