So this has been bothering me for awhile now.
It clearly states on the little review bar for submissions that "hater votes" and "ass-kissers" arent very helpful. So does that mean we shouldnt ever be giving ratings of 0 or 5, and just 1-4?

Liking/disliking something for a legitimate reason isn't ass-kissing or hating, which is something too many YouTube commenters don't understand.
Oh and I wasn't trying to say anything about you, YouTube commenters just seem to be the demographic most overtly oblivious to this fact.
If you think the submission is shit (with no redeemable factors), rate 0
If you think the submission is trash, but isn't the WORST pile of garbage you've ever seen, rate 1
If you think the submission is bad but not horrible, rate 2
If you think the submission is alright, rate 3
If you think the submission is pretty cool, rate 4
If you think the submission is awesome, rate 5
Simple as that. No asskissing or hating anywhere. Just honest criticism (except for zero-bombers. Fuck those guys).
That has to do with your reasons for voting a particular way rather than the rating itself.
Voting 0 undeservedly is "hating".
Voting 5 undeservedly is "ass kissing".
Obviously "Mario v Naruto Stick Battle my first anim vote 5 for le may maYS" will legitimately deserve a 0 whilst "Brackenwood IV: The Return of Bitey" will legitimately deserve a 5.
Compared to other content on the site, where does it stack up? That is the question you have to ask yourself.
Is it some of the worst-made least-effort buggiest least fun content you've ever seen? Vote 0.
Is it among the best Newgrounds has to offer? Vote 5.
Is it good but not comparable to the best? Vote 4.
Is it about average for Newgrounds content? Vote 3.
Is it worse than average but clearly has effort? That's a 2.
Is it almost but not quite complete garbage? There's your 1.
