Just curious.

Mine is history with a double minor in poli-sci and RPTA, but I'm still an undergrad (I plan on attending the grad school here).

For sure, I'll major in Social work, but I might also major in Educational sciences and leadership.

Are you in a Cal State or Uni? Or are you planning to transfer?

And I'm going to just get my AA degree in Culinary and Pastry Arts.

I was actually considering that, but I figured that the job market would become pretty cutthroat by time I graduated. It is a growing field, but that can create a bubble. I'm pretty sure I'm wrong about it, but I'm happy with the path I chose, anyways.

Whoops, meant to say 2 year or 4 year University, force of habit because of Cali.

I knew what you meant.

I'm at a uni. I'm a senior, actually, but won't graduate until December 2015, which kind of sucks, but I plan on going straight into the master's program here.

By the way, nothing at all wrong with a culinary certificate.

My 'post secondary' education wasn't really a degree or anything, but I did qualify for student loans and grants.

Seems like a life time ago.

I'm guessing that means what I'm studying - I don't really understand the American system. Apparently college also means university in America.

Either way, I'm studying Computer Games Application Development. It's at a good university (sony's invested enough in it) so it should get me a job in the games industry. At the very least there will be eyes on me during my time here.

I was majoring in civil engineering but a semester at a big university determined i can't learn shit in a lecture hall of 300 people, so after a few years hiatus i decided to get just finish my 2 year pre-engineering degree at the community college.

A college in America is usually a smaller independent school or a specializing school located within a larger institution. For example, Harvard College is the name for the original campus buildings and central admitting liberal arts school within Harvard University at large, which is the entire holdings of the entity. Those holdings include over a dozen schools, buildings, facilities, land, research locations, etc which would be referred to as part of the University but not the College. Except by embarrassed Harvard students, who refer to it as "a school in Boston".

I did an integrated master's in physics. Missed out on a 1st by 0.3%. Gutted.

Didn't really enjoy it. Learning about physics is fun, but research is dull as fuck, so the massive research project in my final year was a real chore. Convinced me not to stay in the field after graduation, so I went into banking instead. They'll take anyone from a maths-heavy background and it pays well, so couldn't ask for better really.

Math and physics, which is regarded as err... a risky major in Hong Kong.

If you can't pursue further studies in the field and don't want to be a teacher you will probably end up having a low paying job here because there are only very few jobs that require university level math background. Who needs to know topology to find a career in thr bank industry when addition, subtraction, multiplication and probably division are all you have to know.
For many graduates who don't pursue further studies, what you have learnt at school is generally irrelevant to your career. So there is really no advantage of being a math geek.

But the situation is even worse if you get a research degree and fails to find a job in the academia. You qualification is so high that even McDonald would refuse to hire you.

I'm not in college yet, but it'll definitely be something IT related. Probably Comp Sci, but I'm not entirely sure yet.

That's fascinating.

Fast food is basically idiot-proof these days. They hire based on looks only. BUT knowing McDonalds and being somewhat acquainted with hiring practices in SE Asia:

I think that has more to do with the need to hire fewer people by focusing on those who wouldn't be seeking new jobs while employed there and ensure that their qualifications aren't a leverage for higher wages or disruptive scheduling.

I'm skeptical about doing something like this. Physics doesn't exactly enthrall me most of the time but I think i'd prefer to do research even if it meant considerably lower pay.

Dual Major:
English & Psychology.

I'm getting both because I figure they're both garbage degrees so I might as well have DOUBLE the garbage.

I'm a Freshman right now, so I suppose this is subject to change, but atm it's Telecommunications, and probably a minor in something like Sociology or Psychology. Idk.
