Happiest Countries in the World 2014-09-17 09:10:55 Reply

So the Gallup-Healthways Global Well-Being Index is out again and the happiest countries might not be what you'd expect. Here is a full list of the countries, so you can see how your own country stacks up against the world.

According to the survey my country, Australia is the 23rd happiest country, just behind Saudi Arabia. I don't know about you guys, but there is no way that Saudi Arabians are happier than Australians.

Here are the 5 factors that the survey based their numbers are:

Purpose: liking what you do each day and being motivated to achieve your goals
Social: having supportive relationships and love in your life
Financial: managing your economic life to reduce stress and increase security
Community: liking where you live, feeling safe, and having pride in your community
Physical: having good health and enough energy to get things done daily

Anyway, how does your country stack up and how accurate do you think the survey is at gaging happiness?

My country is in 49th...

Pretty accurate, lots of people in Portugal don't like living here.

You should watch this documentary on a typical Australian encounter with another Aussie.

Panama is number one? Clearly some of these are too subjective to measure...

I heard Bhutan used to be one of the happiest countries. Those numbers have gone down and employment is a bit of a struggle for them. as they've let more of a modern age begin.

I don't see North Korea on that list. This indicates an obvious bias by the U.S. imperialists.

I heard Venezuela is statistically the happiest. Probably because despite money struggles, they know how to live.

I've never really taken these polls too seriously, as these kind of polls have inherent biases, as well as taking in outside factors such as social welfare and population in general. Because America has a much bigger population in general along with having more places that are economically depressed or even behind the times, the happiness rating is going to be skewed somewhat compared to most of Western Europe who are basically a quasi-nanny state, in heavy debt, or even both.

Needless to say, this is why I've always believed that the grass isn't always greener on the other side and why America should never try to be like Western Europe. Just because it works for them doesn't mean it'll work here, especially when you have hundreds of millions of people who can't see eye to eye on most anything, and they all have different needs.

I can tell that this list is bullshit because Qatar isn't number one and it doesn't have every country in the world listed.

Hmm.. Uruguay is one of the happiest countries? That makes sense. They have the best president in the world, legal weed, and a lovely environment. As for Murka, I don't get how it's one of the happiest countries. Only like 6 states total are good, and most of the southern half of the country is a shitty desert / humid dump filled with a bunch of ignorant hicks with double didget IQ's.

In the suicidally depressed inhospitable western US, where I reside, only like umm.. Colorado, Washington, and Oregon are passable states. New mexico is filled with a bunch of redneck retards working tha oail feeilds, or doing multitudinous amounts of Crystal Meth, tobacco, or shitty laced weed they got from the cartels.

I don't get how mexico is happy too. mexico to the amazon has extreme amounts of crime. You got those fucking cartels too. But to be honest, like 30% of mexicans have it right. Strong, supportive accepting families, badass food (even if their water isn't safe for consumption).. but the rest were shitbags back when I was living near mexico..

Scandinavia and much of europe are the best countries, easily outranking 'murka at like everything good. But those places are so fuckin gloomy and cold. Ship some of the europeans to take over some Micronesian countries and I'm sure the new tropical countries would rank #1..

Yes, because legal drug use is equivalent to happiness, pretty flimsy logic I dare say.

First, it's America, have the dignity to spell it right, lest you come off as a retard. Second, you seem to get your stereotypes mixed up as well as your geography, so it basically means that you have nothing productive to this conversation, which means everything you have said is null and void.

Scandinavia and much of europe are the best countries, easily outranking 'murka at like everything good.

Nope. You need to remember that Scandinavian countries are basically a nanny state, it's easy to be happy when they pretty much give you everything and have only 5-10 million people who agree on most everything. America on the other hand has 315 million people with different backgrounds, philosophies and so on.

Besides the differences are really razor thin anyway, so that makes that point moot.

But those places are so fuckin gloomy and cold. Ship some of the europeans to take over some Micronesian countries and I'm sure the new tropical countries would rank #1..

Europe is far from a paradise in more ways than just weather, why do you think so many people leave in the first place? Go play in traffic.

Care to explain? If you are trying to say that all 50 states are one big monolith who thinks in one way or another, you're sorely mistaken. Surely, you've been here long enough to know that, unless you're trying to pull a bluff.
