Seriously, it bothers me when women are referred to as "Oh, she's that one dude's girlfriend/wife" as if what DEFINES HER, and her skills and experiences and her worth as a person...is who she's fucking.

No major loss here. This is like losing a pen that you kinda liked just because you've kept it in your pocket for a while. Yeah, you're accustomed to it, but you've realized that it's just one of those really awful pens that companies give away for free as advertisement.

I mean, it doesn't even write very well. It's also sort of ugly. Has a big logo on it. Stop writing at random times. Now the pen has found its way into a co-worker's pocket and you're slowly realizing that it was sort of a shit pen.

One day you'll find a pen you really like. One which likes you back. All will be well in the world again. No co-worker will be able to steal this pen from you, and you'd never dare use another pen. You'll write in perfect rhythm and Zeus himself will defecate rainbows when you're writing.

OP it's logical you should feel super down, man. But in a few years you'll back on it and see how little this 9-months-relationship mattered in your life. I think most people have a history of shitty relationships before they find somebody they want to settle with for a good while... I'm aware it doesn't make it less painful, but it makes it less important.

Part of what worries me is the fact that you were with her because you were convinced that it is better than being alone.
I think you should take some time to evaluate yourself, and see what you need in a partner.
It's possible that you aren't ready for a relationship, as I assume you're young due to you wanting to wait until you're older before you 'settle down.'
It's also possible that you aren't going with the right people, or at least not for the right reasons since she had to convince you to go out with her. You should go out with someone because you like them, you want to spend more time with them and become more intimate, and because you feel ready. Also, it should be noted that in my experience, some of the best relationships come from friendships.
Although it hurts right now, take this as a learning experience as to what you're NOT looking for in someone, as now you're a little closer to narrowing it down to what you want, which can really be hard to determine.
It's okay to cry and feel shitty, let your emotions out, accept how you feel, and then try to release them. Don't let someone who was shitty to you make you feel sad for too long. Grieve for the loss of the good times you had, but remember that the relationship has changed and is no longer a positive thing that is going to be worth pursuing. Do your best to distract yourself, listen to Simon and Garfunkel, play some newground games, go out with friends! Try not to isolate yourself, as it's easy to do when you're down.
I'm really sorry that this happened to you. I've been cheated on and it's incredibly hurtful, and hard. No one deserves it.
