Oh, Canada.

I remember getting freak snowstorms in the summer when I was growing up in northern NY. It never stuck to the ground or accumulated like that though! The first snows to really stick to the ground didn't show up until late September/early October...sucked when soccer season went into October and you're freezing your balls off on the field

Beautiful pictures. I hardly ever see snow nowadays. I prefer the tropical climate, though.

Oh, you're from upstate NY too? Where? Ballston Spa? Albany? Schenectady? Or were you further north than that? Glens Falls, Watertown, or Plattsburgh?

Far up north. Plattsburgh is probably closest. I grew up in the Adirondack Mountains. We sometimes started getting the first frost around now. I remember pee wee soccer practices where I'd be wearing like 3 pairs of socks because the frost on the ground would make my feet cold

Snow in September?

Irrefutable proof that Global Warming is a socialist con perpetrated by the DemoRats to scare the sheeple and maintain their hippy stranglehold on the White House.

Take that, science!

Okay, not that upstate.

It used to annoy me greatly when anyone referred to anywhere south of Albany as "upstate" or referred to Buffalo as anything but Western NY. When asked where I grew up, now that I live in another state, I typically say "northern new york" so they don't ask about westchester and I have to rage-punch their neck.

I have not but I would cross at the Akwesasne border crossing when traveling to Michigan to visit family. I also have friends who grew up in Massena.

haha. It's weird because where I live is totally south, but everyone from the city calls it upstate. Idiosyncratic, who has the same name as me, actually called me "upstate Alex" to differentiate me from him and ElGhoulio.

Not quite, still summer until the 22nd. When you said spring, I assumed you must have been in Australia or New Zealand.

I wish that the Adirondacks got more recognition, they're nice and they're the largest national park in the United States.

It's the same for me. If you live around New Rochelle, White Plains, or Scarsdale, you're sure as fuck not upstate and if you say you are I will murder you. Buffalo and Rochester are Western NY, Syracuse is Central NY, (Fun trivia, Tom Cruise is from Syracuse) Albany, Saratoga Springs and the Hudson Valley are Upstate East NY, and the Adirondacks, Plattsburgh, Watertown, and the smaller towns and countryside around them are the true upstate.

I can't wait to get out of New York, though. We couldn't possibly get more irrelevant or crappy.

It's actually a STATE park. 6 million acres of private and public land. What the state owns is kept 'forever wild' as per the state constitution. The mix of private land means there are towns and villages all over the large park like Lake Placid, 2 time host of the winter olympics. And Plattsburgh, Ticondaroga, Crown Point and Westport were all important in the Revolutionary war and War of 1812. Lots of awesome history in our own back yards.

I'm almost glad it's not as popular because the high peaks wilderness is already pretty crowded. Too many people on the trails when you're on a 2 day hike and it doesn't feel like wilderness anymore.

I confuse state and national parks constantly, I'm embarrassed by my ignorance. I knew about Lake Placid and Ticonderoga, though. Also, Saratoga was arguably one of the most important out of all of those. Isn't it referred to as the turning point of the Revolutionary War? Also, did you know that Kurt Vonnegut lived in Schenectady for a while, working for GE when they were still doing shit here? Another thing that I remember, Theodore Kaczynski AKA the "Unabomber's" brother lived in Albany and was an assistant director for a center for runaway and abused children, I think. I don't know if the Kaczynskis still live in the area, though. It's nice to talk to somebody else from upstate NY.
