I'm sort of surprised there isn't a thread for this yet.

Nicki Minaj's new song completely exacerbates modern pop music's reputation for being overly sexual and otherwise meaningless. Not only is it extremely objectifying of women, but it also feeds off of this whole idea of "shock value" that mainstream musicians are constantly trying to increase. It's like they all came together and signed a pact to make the most offensive, extreme, and nonsensical tracks that they could. This is "Blurred Lines" all over again, although perhaps even worse because Nicki Minaj is a woman, and therefore supposed to be a role model for young girls.

That's true, but my point is that she is a role model for these kids no matter what she does. They will look up to her no matter what, but only she can dictate what kind of influence she has on them and, as I've pointed out, she's making some pretty questionable choices in those regards.

Every girl I get close to is starting to send nudes and become a sexual deviant, but that doesn't mean it's Nicki Minaj's fault.

While I wholeheartedly agree, I'm just sick of hearing it. Though I'll throw in that what bothers me the most is that her music is marketed/targeted towards young teens as much as it is young adults. At least it seems that way. Not that she gives a shit either way.

What is with peoples' hysteria over pop culture icons? People act like these shocking, sexualized videos, songs, etc have had any negative effect on today's young people. Teen pregnancy, smoking, drinking, drug abuse... all down across the board. BUT SURELY THIS NEW NICKI MINAJ MOVIE WILL BE THE DOWNFALL OF AMERICAS YOUTH!!!!!
