Nicki Minaj's new song completely exacerbates modern pop music's reputation for being overly sexual and otherwise meaningless. Not only is it extremely objectifying of women, but it also feeds off of this whole idea of "shock value" that mainstream musicians are constantly trying to increase. It's like they all came together and signed a pact to make the most offensive, extreme, and nonsensical tracks that they could. This is "Blurred Lines" all over again, although perhaps even worse because Nicki Minaj is a woman, and therefore supposed to be a role model for young girls.
Discuss as ye will, Newgrounders. ;(

Why is she supposed to be a role model? She doesn't have to do anything. Last time I checked any famous person can act in any way even without regard to young people looking up to them.

That's true, but my point is that she is a role model for these kids no matter what she does. They will look up to her no matter what, but only she can dictate what kind of influence she has on them and, as I've pointed out, she's making some pretty questionable choices in those regards.

Every girl I get close to is starting to send nudes and become a sexual deviant, but that doesn't mean it's Nicki Minaj's fault.
Jah Bless.......
blahblah pop music overly sexualized blahblah bad example blahblah
While I wholeheartedly agree, I'm just sick of hearing it. Though I'll throw in that what bothers me the most is that her music is marketed/targeted towards young teens as much as it is young adults. At least it seems that way. Not that she gives a shit either way.

I'd say that something needs to have gone horribly wrong in your life for you to consider Nicki Minaj to be a role model. Her popularity is as much a symptom as a problem in itself, but we need to look to other causes for the origin of the problem. I'd imagine that it begins with the parents who do not teach their children right from wrong; respectable from delinquent; inquisitive from ignorant.

It has obviously worked because you are talking about it.
I don't really have a problem with the whole oversexualizing women thing. My problem with the song is that it takes a great Sir Mixalot classic and samples it horribly.

Alright, you caught me there.

I think it's amazing that she managed to embarrass women and black people in under 5 minutes
You look nice today.
This guy brutally sodomizes me.
Cereal is pretty cool. If you're cool you'll add me on Steam. Also, Letterboxd.

Why do people care so much about celebrities like her again?
I can understand that people'd look up to someone like John Lennon or Charlie Chaplin-- but this bitch?
Better question, how stupid do you have to be to view nikki minaj as a role model

And people like Anita Sarkeesian bitch about objectification in video games when absolute trash like this exists?
I need to listen to a song with substance from a female singer to rinse out my ears.

I'm not, because we don't care about untalented slutty attention-desperate pop artists.
What is with peoples' hysteria over pop culture icons? People act like these shocking, sexualized videos, songs, etc have had any negative effect on today's young people. Teen pregnancy, smoking, drinking, drug abuse... all down across the board. BUT SURELY THIS NEW NICKI MINAJ MOVIE WILL BE THE DOWNFALL OF AMERICAS YOUTH!!!!!

What's your point?
So far this is the best thing to come out of the music video.

I'm sure there were a whole host of shitty celebrities in both John Lennons and Charlie Chaplins eras who nobody remembers.

Thank god for that.
