I decided against going with an Impreza as a new car, due to lack of features. I found a very nice 2014 Honda Civic though, which has everything I could want. What I want to know is... Do cars like the Civic (not hybrid) have the same hate towards them as cars like the Prius? The Civic IS a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle, like the Prius, but it is not a hybrid.

My mom had a 2009 Civic that my dad totaled. (Now THERE'S a story). I haven't gotten a chance to drive her 2013 yet, so I can't judge the new ones. I can say the 2009 was terrible in the snow, even when the traction system came on. Hopefully they've improved it since then, but if it's still terrible and you live in a snowy place, that can be cause for concern. Other than that, it was fine. No wonky gear shifts or anything.
Speaking of wonky gears...DO NOT buy a Kia Spectra. Mom had one after said car totaling as a rental until she got her new one. It handles like a 16 year old learning stick.

So far as I'm aware of, no, it doesn't get the same hate Prius does. I've never, ever seen or heard anyone say, "Look at that Civic-driving son of a bitch, I bet he votes democrat." I see plenty of other Civics on the road; they seem to be somewhat popular. Evidently @voltage has something against Honda. As a Civic driver, i just want mine to function properly. It does, so I'm pretty happy.

Honda civic is a downgrade unless you mod it. Get a Subaru impreza they do have feature packages you have to add on which costs extra but you get far more for what you pay for with subaru

Few cars have the same level of hate directed toward them as the Prius, with a few exceptions like the Hummer.
