Yay I'm through.
Quick question, I am writing up the idea and lyrical content for my entry at the moment. What is the most I can get away with in this competition in regards to how offensive/extreme the lyrics can get?
Sorry for the slow response. I've been traveling today. So, there are no established rules for this in the competition or in the AP as a whole (believe me - I checked), so, at the very least, you can curse all you want. That said, I'd be careful about insulting specific groups of people (religious, ethnic, racial, or otherwise) and discussing/encouraging illegal activities. If you want to write a hateful/angry song directed at a make-believe ex-girlfriend or something, though, I have no problems with that. ;) Just try to be aware of your audience (the AP community as well as the judges) and the purpose or message of your song as they'd perceive it. ;)
