It's about 15 years too late for me to care.

Saw something about them airing a crossover Simpsons-Futurama episode, too.
At least they're not pretending anymore.
I'm a survivor. We're a dying breed.
It is today. That is not a problem.

You know, since about season 18 I've probably seen no more than 5 episodes.

The only new Simpsons I bother watching are the Treehouse of Horror episodes, and even those are complete junk half the time now.

Remember when South Park did that? But that wasn't a publicly stunt so much as just getting tired of that character.

Some people think it's actually Krusty's dad who's getting killed off.
If Krusty's dad counts as a "major character", than the term has lost all meaning.

I thought Edna Krabappel was the major character that was killed off.
I don't even know why a show like the Simpsons would kill off anyone.
Apart from a few details, there's no continuity at all.

Last I remember it was Ned's wife that was killed off. Though I don't keep up with the simpsons all that much anymore.

ah zombie simpsons
i wish they would just cancel it. the ratings drop by a few million each season. if it were any other show that didn't have the same history, it would be cancelled in a heartbeat
it's so sad to see the show devolve so much that they have kill off a major character to stay somewhat relevant or else no one would talk about the shit show
hey

Not sure what Simpsons you watched. To be fair I haven't watched the recent episodes, but back when I did watch it it had excellent continuity. Right down to subtle details. And the Halloween episodes don't count toward the continuity. Everyone knows this.
Name one continuity error which isn't
a) Halloween episode (doesn't count)
b) OMG they don't get any older! (doesn't count -- you could assume time behaves differently in Simpsons universe)
You're going to be hard-pressed to find them. Nearly anything else can be explained away.

Wow, I didn't know that Matt Groening quit being the showrunner of The Simpsons. They should've put in show runned by instead of created by because that would just be confusing with the fanbase to declare who is who.

RollingStone rave - "FINALLY, THAT FUCKING ASS CLOWN IS DYING!"
The Ney York Times applaud - "That show still fucking existed?"
The Newgrounds addict reports - "Who fucking cares? Just let me masturbate in peace dammit!"
Truly, it is not a momentous time in history. I and many others (besides basement dwellers) are highly uncaring of this unimportant thing!
I thank you all for making this possible, goddamn. You all are just so great in what you do! You Newgrounders keep doing what yall are doing.

Edna was voiced by Marcia Wallace who died in October of 2013. The creators simply retired the character, even if she still appeared in screenshots, etc.. No "killing off" to speak of.
Just to clear that up.

The show stopped being relevant a few years after the turn of the century, it's just not a cultural staple like it was in the 90's.

Do you know what would make killing him off good? If they did it without warning people ahead of time to boost their views while taking away any actual shocking effect it might have. Just like the whole Brian thing.
Oh, and they will probably just bring him back anyway like with Brian, unless the reason they are killing the character off is because they are losing the voice actor and can't think of any other way to handle such a situation.
