Lol nobody watches MLP anymore, it's all about the Ogrelord Shrek now.
You're about two years late on this fad.

I don't watch things because they're fads - I watch things because I want to watch them.

That pretty much sums up where the confusion lies.
Not everyone was doing it because it was popular you know, although I imagine many did because "lol so randum" or something.

probably.
It makes me wonder how many people here have any substance of all, if all their decisions are powered by fads and recommendations by others based on "popularity"

Please explain to me, in depth, why this pony show is so good.

You come to the internet and defend the dated show with a wall of text, you're a brony.
I am a flash animator and after watching that show I was amazed at the level of animation detail that was put INTO that show. A lot of those scenes are painstakingly hard to do in a program such as flash. I also noted that the music score for the show is RIDICULOUSLY professionally produced, and that almost every song is ridiculously catchy, some to the point of irritably. I also noticed that the plot of each episode, while some may be a tad cheesy or corny, are consistantly well produced - and usually lead up for a stelar finish. Each season brings forth an even more badass villian than the next.
You're a flash animator as a hobby, a well-trained team with years of experience does the show. It's not nearly as hard for them as you think it is. Also, someone made a reel of all the animation mistakes. And it runs for over an hour. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b5ZjGdjz1k
How perfect and painstakingly crafted is it now?
And a song being catchy doesn't equate to it being good.
I looked up all of the plot summaries for the show. They just seem like average kid show plots. Nothing special. And considering the typos in that paragraph, I don't think you're qualified to judge the literary talent of the plot writers.
This season's villain was so badass the battle sequence was like something from dragonball z. So I started to think to myself - half the stuff in these episodes would go way above any childs head - like the interactions between characters, raritys fashion references, little things here and there - and then all the violence of the episodes, esp. the last season. When I was a kid sure there was action but it seemed more cutesy - and if compared to the first gen mlp this stuff is off the wall.
I looked it up, and I don't know how you think it's as bad ass as DBZ. DBZ had fast action and suspense in its fights, accompanied by fitting music and an art style that complimented the action.
It concluded in my eyes that while mlp may have originally been for kids, over time they have realized that much of their viewership is NOT kids - but more people who WERE kids when the original series came out, and now want a sense of nostalgia watching the next iteration, but ramped up a bit. I do not believe this mlp is for 6 year old girls any longer. As least not exclusively.
Watching a show through rose-tinted glasses doesn't make it good you dunderfuck.
So my question is, why all the hate? There seems to be this emasculation concept if people watch a show about female ponies. In the end it's just a cartoon. Heck I grew up watching shows like JEM and the holograms and she-ra - she-ra was a woman, and she kicked serious ass! Why doesn't everyone just let people watch whatever the fuck they want and judge them on their character and not on their habits, if one feels the need to judge at all?
We hate them because they shove their show in people's faces and think they're cool for ironically liking a kid's show. Trying to pin emasculation as purpose for our hate is just stupid. If you want to watch an average kiddie show (I don't know why you would) that's fine by me. Just shut up about it. No one wants to read your wall of text about how good your show is, that's why there are communities on the internet you're supposed to go to; you wan't shut up about it.
It's just a fad.
You complain about other people being dumb for following fads, yet you follow one yourself.
That's hilarious.
By being a brony in 2014, you're just beating a dead horse.
(see what I did there?)

watching a show that has a fad associated with it does not mean you are WATCHING it because it's a fad.. otherwise everything would be a fad, because everything has some sort of following to it on the internet.
And apparently people do want to read my wall of text - considering this is on its second page.
I don't call you dumb for your beliefs - but I respect your right to think about me however you want - after all it has no impact on my life. So good day to you sir :)
