tropical storm arthur was upgraded to a hurricane today. maximum sustained winds (1 minute) is 90 miles per hour.
the system has accelerated to the northeast in the last few hours and is expected to skirt the coastal area of north carolina on the 4th of july.

according to the (my) forecast, the storm will maintain its current intensity (or slightly intensify) until t=+36 hours. from that point onwards, the system will begin extratropical transition and accelerate further. heavy rains and minor floods are expected.

some people are already evacuated, so no celebrations for them. ;-)

hurricanes named after females are more destructive than those named after men.

They name the hurricanes years in advance so either the HAARP is real or it's a stupid coincidence.

It's supposed to brush past me. If it destroys my home i'm going to have to lie about it because I don't think I can shamelessly say that a storm named Arthur ruined my life.

the center of arthur made landfall as a category 2 hurricane. hurricane force winds were recorded near the center of the storm. it is the strongest hurricane (by estimated maximum wind speed) to make landfall in the US since 2008.

the storm has begun to move offshore and weather of affected areas will improve. the strongest winds are concentrated to the southeast of the storm and the windfield will become more asymmetrical partly due to increased forward speed.

rainfall and possible storm surge are the main concern.

green=strong wind, yellow=gale, red=storm/hurricane force wind
