Perhaps it varies pending on the person? When my sister tried to go vegetarian, she ended up having the shits, and reported feeling nauseous.

Protein is cool, but it won't just build muscle for you. Please, I know it's hard to understand, but you don't need it to maintain muscle. You need some, but you need very little. TONS of vegan muscle builders who could and would out run and lift a bitch any day. In fact, a looooot of Olympic athletes are raw vegans. I can sit here all night naming you names.

That may have been from other things. Although it wouldn't surprise me if people have tiny withdrawal effects from going cold turkey on meat.

That's normal. Her body is reacting to her old lifestyle. You will get the shits for the first 6 months. Inevitable. Your body detoxifying is normal. Her nauseousness came from malnourishment. You need to eat enough and it needs to be balanced. Vegans need more carbs than anyone. She was probably lacking in carbs, vitamin c, d, b12, iodine, iron or zinc. It's common for people who start it and have no idea how to eat a well balanced diet. If I didn't get enough of these, I got truly sick and dizzy.

I wish she stuck with it because it takes years to detox years of abuse to the body with junk food and hormonal filled animal products. Same with medication. It doesn't take 30 days to ditch the shit out of your body, it takes years. Nothing magically heals itself overnight.

You CAN'T maintain the lifestyle I'm on and NOT be lean and fit as fuck. You can't. Impossible.

First year I severely detoxed and craved things (normal) AND gained weight after a few months from my body readjusting it's metabolism and making sure it didn't fear that I was going to starve myself on junk food and 1200 calories a day shit. After that I dropped all that weight off but kept all my muscle I was building. I felt and still feel I can work out for 8 hours and still feel like I can go for a jog after. The energy you build is INCREDIBLE dude. Carb the fuck up, stay active, you will be lean and fit as fuck and will probably not deal with the weight gain like I did. I went through a huge 8 year battle with bulimia and anorexia so of course my body reacted. You will do well. I know it. Whatever you do, EAT ENOUGH. DON'T be afraid of 10 banana smoothies and carb up :)

Huh, you learn something new every day. I'd not know about this shit because I can't even remember the last time I ate meat. For some reason when I was incredibly fucking young (like two years old at the latest) I just decided to not eat meat, or fish any more. I don't even fucking know why, I just stopped, and I've never had any desire to give it a second chance.

Nuts and seeds are CONDIMENTS. Not staples. They shouldn't be snacks or meals. I've thrived well without much at all of it at all. You only need 2.5-5 percent of your diet coming from fats. I get all my fat from fruit, no lie. Easily. But I eat enough and that's the problem with alot of vegans is that they don't eat ENOUGH and look sickly or eat vegan gourmet foods and remain fat. Burn fat not oil, mate.

I started out as a vegan almost 5 months ago, eating nothing but rice, vegetables, fruit, and beans. However, I could not control my love of cheese pizza, so after two months I decided just to be a vegetarian. It's working out fine. I take a vitamin specifically made for vegans, so I get my B12 and other nutrients.

Just make sure you have a non-meat source of protein, like almonds, or peanut butter, or even eggs.

Okay. Sounded like you were telling a guy to never consume fat ever because if fat touches your lips you'll get fat.

There is no problem with a lot of vegans. A lot of vegans are perfectly healthy and are not sickly or fat.
It's great that you eat super high sugar foods all day, but that doesn't mean it's for everyone. The boy only wanted to make sure he wasn't going to make himself sick by not eating meat.

I was too. That's different though. A lot of people are lactose intolerant now. There's a reason for it. Mostly due to how/what factories process and put in their products now. When I drank goats milk or raw cheese I magically didn't get ill from it. Most people won't drink expensive goats cheese or eat raw cheese so it's safe to just quit it and be done with it. It makes for a more cruelty free environment and less tum tum issues.

Also, I love the food you posted, but I rarely eat them because I'm always full on my meals anyhow. I don't snack anymore.

Ok, it's "evil" to kill animals. But it's perfectly fine to kill plants. Don't plants have a right to live? I never understood why it's okay to kill plants, but you are "the scum of the earth" if you kill animals.

Humans are omnivore, get over it.

They are not? And how come they even can communicate with each other? There are plants that can sent out scents if they are "attacked" by plant louses. This scent will attract a different insect that preys on the plant louses.
How can the plant do that, if it isn't sentient?

Adding to my previous post: We know next to nothing about the microcosmos of plants. Hell, a few years ago we couldn't even explain how a root "knows" in which direction to grow and how a plant will always grow upwards, even if hanging from a ceiling and a light source from below. And yet we consider it okay to kill them, because "they aren't sentient". By that logic, if we somehow manage to breed animals that aren't sentient, would it be okay to kill them, too?

I'd just like to say first off, those videos you're watching are likely propaganda filled bullshit.

I live in Texas, there are practically as many cows as people in some places and the lots they get to graze from are fairly large, they have trees for shade and they get water either from ravines or troughs. I've lived next to cattle my whole life, I've been chased around by cattle, I've patted the head of many a cow and bull. I respect these animals, hell, I even find them to be kinda cute. They'll always remind me of home but does that mean I'm going to stop eating meat? God no, of course not. Meat is delicious, its some of the best tasting food you'll ever find and no plant or synthetic anything will beat it, ever. I believe in eating a balanced diet with meat, dairy, grains and veggies.

You will likely never ever find a processing plant in the mountains next to some green pastures where cows roam free and happy. But does that mean they all live awful lives like depicted in your propangandatastic "Meat is Murder" bullshit? No, not even close is that the norm. The people who made those videos have an AGENDA, and of course they're only going to use the awful clips edited and mashed together to make it look like that is the norm. Bitch I live the norm. I can hear the norm from my fucking house, mooing away in the pastures. Take it from some one who actually knows, these cows live perfectly average lives before getting taken in for processing, they eat, drink and if they're genes are good, they breed and then years later, when they get big enough, they go to market and get processed in a clean facility and killed in humane ways. Seriously, just watch a non-bias documentary that tours normal facilities and take you through the average process.

So if you want to be a vegetarian, vegan, whatever, do it because you want to, not because some bullshit propaganda video fed you the bad short end of a long stick and told you that's all there is. Just know you're passing up on some great eating. I don't eat to survive, very very few people do in first world countries. No, culinary for me is an art form and a pleasure and meat is a large pallet of delicious flavors for chefs and cooks to use. From chicken to lamb to the almighty beef, I do loves me some meat and will continue to do so my whole life, but good luck with your thing or whatever.

Yes, by your standards. But I would like to hear an explanation from someone who doesn't think it's okay to kill animals. ;)

Just gonna go ahead and put it out there. I've read some boards with vegans that seriously valued a human life, and that of an animal, equally. I find that frankly to be baffling and a little disturbing that they'd have a tough time choosing between little Billy and little Billy's cat on who to take out of a burning building. As much as I respect nature, animals, plant life, etc. Humans will always be superior to that of all other living things in my mind (remember the times when that went without saying?), I do not equate the life of any animal with a humans, maybe its just species bias, but I'd slaughter a thousand Pandas to save a single human's life. I'm all for respecting nature, saving wildlife, saving forests. The Earth is beautiful and so is everything inside of it, the natural world can be really really amazing. But when it comes down to it, I, and like 99% of humanity will always be for putting humanity first in a life or death situation.

So if you're a vegan, just don't be THAT kind of vegan.
