Why do people post @? 2014-06-14 16:02:55 Reply

Sometimes I see people post @<name> on the forums. Does it do anything?

@TeslaShockwave I saw do it, so I'll leave that as a test.

He should be getting a notification about this post in his feed right about now. :)

@username is a way of notifying a user about something. It works in BBS posts and newspost comments/comment replies, also works even quoted text, so he'll get a notification about this response too. It's like quoting a user, but without a quote. As a topic creator, you'll get a notification when someone responds to your topic too btw.

So if I were to @ a shitload of people in a random thread, it might get it a fuckton of attention? Sounds abusable.

I'd expect abusing the feature could get you banned... even if there is no specific rule saying so. :) It's just like spamming people with PMs or comments. As for mass @s, for group events or collabs it can be pretty useful!

@TheKingGriefer
It does whenever you click on the reply button and add a @
You can do whatever you want as long as you don't do mean stuff towards NG users

I'm sure it originated in the comments section of video and news websites where there is no button for quoting other users.
