After watching an Autism documentary, I don't know why it's on the same spectrum of people with Aspergers.
I can get why high-functioning autism is kinda similar to Aspergers but when I thought of low-functioning autism, I am pretty sure that I agree with you sort of.
Yeah High functioning autism and aspergers do deserve their own category since they're not all that different. Autism should really only be described as those with more severe cases.
In my opinion, being mildly autistic is like being mildly pregnant. No matter where you fall on the autism spectrum, you are not going to lead a normal life....
we're both incredibly socially inept. i cant always tell whether people are being sarcastic or serious. trouble with striking up small talk in person and whatnot.. hell, in person i dont usually bother talking in the first place, since i dont see the point if all i'd succeed in doing is be misunderstood.
not just limited to speech either, some of us cant do personal hygene...
all this makes it pretty much impossible for us to get a job.
i may be glad i'm not a low ender on the autism spectrum, but we aspys have to deal with some of the same old crap they do, and we also have to deal with the crap "normal" people do.. it cuts both ways...
I still remember that show on NBC that had a kid with pretty hardcore aspergers

Normal? Fuck that. Normal is boring.
The symptoms are identical. The only perceived difference is an emphasis on certain symptoms over others, while maintaining high functionality.
At the moment, they are classified as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Level 1, 2, or 3. Level 1 being high functioning, with the capability of living with little to no assistance into adulthood, and level 3 being low functioning, with significant mental retardation and complete inability to function without assistance.
"Asperger's Syndrome" would almost exclusively be level 1, with an emphasis on social ineptitude and obsessive behaviors.
The generalized treatment is essentially the same, bearing in mind that every single person with an ASD is different from everyone else, as a result of the spectral nature of it. Eliminating semantics allows experts to focus on treating the individuals.
Because both of them belong to the Autism Spectrum and are not much more than two different levels of it.
