Pokemon are portrayed to be very intelligent creatures, on par with humans in many ways. In some ways, they may even be of superior (Interspecial communication for instance) intellect. They are subject to emotional dismay and trauma, as well as proficiency in memorization and problem-solving skills.
I'd wager that they would remember where they came from, and possibly harbor a lifelong disdain for humans.
even in the movies they die, iron masked marauder killed a celebi, and the unown killed their illusory entei creation.
i'm not sure, but i also think the fake groudon created by jirachi was killed.. granted, the latter two could be considered to not be actual pokemon, but they still function the same way..
ash's metapod nearly died from a beedrill sting iirc, and if not for evolving, it would have. charmander's flame was stated to be essential for life, and it nearly went out on several occasions.. again, not really actual pokemon deaths, but they couldve been.
because that's what kids want. To grieve over the death of their virtual pokemon. ITS LIKE THE BEST PART OF THE EXPERIENCE

Pokedex entries for Yamask:
These Pokémon arose from the spirits of people interred in graves in past ages. Each retains memories of its former life. / Each of them carries a mask that used to be its face when it was human. Sometimes they look at it and cry.
Pokedex entries for Phantump:
These Pokémon are created when spirits possess rotten tree stumps. They prefer to live in abandoned forests. / According to old tales, these Pokémon are stumps possessed by the spirits of children who died while lost in the forest.

All the while, either they're completely okay with or oblivious to the fact that the world of Pokemon has creatures capable of dragging children to the underworld, draining the life fluids out of one another, or are dependent on having to spring up and down all the time in order to survive.

The Black Fog was an immense pokemon that was essentially an evolved form of haunter that formed when Haunter bonded with the souls/ghosts of thousands of dead people/pokemon.
It essentially killed people and pokemon to make itself stronger.
Though I do not know if this is accepted as canon in the television show/game lore.
and then there were the original entei, raikou, and suicune, 3 ordinary pokemon, (my bets on the eeveeloutions) charred beyond recognition in the brass tower fire, and ressurected by ho-oh's sacred ash.

You are kind of late with that one. In season one they mentioned that the ancient flying pokemon aerodactyl was a carnivor and Kabotups generation one had a similar pokedex entry for it. so yeah pokemon can die.
You have clearly never played a Nuzlocke challenger game and adhered to the rules strictly.

Yamask and Hypno are probably two are of the creepiest pokemon I've ever encountered in a Pokemon game.
the former being creepier than the latter
Hypno's Pokedex entries state that Hypno "feasts on the dreams of it's sleeping prey and has kidnapped children".

err, people have been known to beat pokemon games without getting a single faint..
personally, i've even done a one 'mon army challenge run, (using only your starter pokemon for offensive purposes, beat every trainer in the world at least once) with minimal fainting before.. (less than 10 faints iirc)
if i had time to ev train like everyone else, i would probably be able to combine nuzlocke and one 'mon army and still finish the game.. but i dont.
not that you can release your last pokemon technically but, starting over is just as good..
anyhow, your point is still valid, in that to those who cant go without fainting, the pokemon can be considered "dead"...
just saying that its not a thing for everyone is all.
not sure if someone already took my challenge name and used it for something else either, but its all i could think of at the time..
