Welcome toA Girl in a Room II, a Halloween 2014 collaboration.

About:

A Girl in a Room collaboration was started last year and will be continuing the saga this year with a bigger and better collaboration. The theme last year was there is a girl in a room, and she interacts with an egg.

Theme:

Horror/Thriller

2014 Theme - *Sci-Fi

A Girl is in a White Room

As a contributor your goal will be to make a short horror animation piece about a girl in a white room. The theme this year will follow science fiction horror movies. The white room is your starting base, throughout your animation the room will likely hint towards your sci-fi setting, so maybe the room is on a distant planet, or space ship of some sort.

Parts will start with the girl waking up, and likely end with her dying or whatever you decide to torture the audience with.

Stage Info:

Flash CS5 compatible
FPS: 24
Size: 960x540 px
Stage color- #FFFFFF ( white )

Length: 15 seconds - 2 minuets
Audio: All Allowed

Rating: Teen - MA ( keep gore and sexual themes to a minimum. )

DEADLINE- October 27th

Restrictions

No Stick Figures
No Sprites
No Porn
No Excessive Gore ( some is ok, but not excessive )
No Parody
No Satire

Fourm Expectations:

Let's have a great collab this year, the more contributors the better! Post update progress' and teaser images here in the thread. I'll be hosting google+ hangouts from time to time for creative conversation and animation technique tutorials.

To Join

Post here stating your interest in the collaboration, if we have room you'll likely be in! Please have some prior animation experience.

Hmmm.... You know, I might just join this year. I saw last years collab and it looked fun. I can make a script for my part in a week(I want it to be dark and interesting) and start animating. So, am I in?

Awesome! Sounds great man, glad to have you aboard!

My part is already written and planned out from last year. I have the voice acting done already as well. Shock-Dingo Did the voices for my part, and they are pleasantly creepy!

Also the image below is the girl that will be the main character in the room. You can deviate from the design below but I think it'd be a cool effect if it appeared to be the same girl in each part.

Terrintino fine, Saw movies too much.

Like I want it to be a horror collab, not a gross out the viewer collab. So if somebodies arm getting cut off, fine. But opening up her stomach and having it all fall out. That's borderline.

Just keep it tasteful, I trust you'll keep artistic integrity.

you're welcome to join the collaboration, but bear in mind if your part isn't up to quality standards It will likely not make it into the final piece. I've noticed you have been trying to join every collab. I don't mind giving you a chance, but be sure to give it your all and take time on your part to make it up to par with the other artists in the collab. If your part does not fit the criteria of being horror related it will not be accepted.

Of course, as long as your part is up to the standard quality in the end, everybody is welcome.

This question will be the deciding factor for me finalizing the script. With the white room, do we have complete creative freedom in what we put in it? I was thinking about having a switch that opens various parts in the room but they aren't big areas that take away from the room effect. If so, my part will have a bit of a twist at the end rather than a 'bloody' ending haha.

Yes that's fine, for example in my scene one of the walls of the room opens up to be a window peering out into space. Just as long as it starts as a white room, that's all. Lots of creative liberties in this collab.

Well then, consider my script done. Now all I need is a female voice actor and I can begin animating.

Sounds great man, glad to have you on board! Try to keep up with the thread from time to time in case there are any changes though. The earlier the part is done the more I can have fun including them all together for the final piece.

I also came up with a great idea for the intro today while driving. I think it'll be a nice twisted way to start this ways collab. I'm excited.

Are we allowed to use pixel animation at all?
I might give this a shot since I'll have loads of free time for the next few months

I would prefer to stay away from Pixel animation for the most part, but since it's a sci-fi theme this year I can see some scenarios where pixel animation could work. But overall I would like to see more expressions from the characters which will help be scary. I just don't ever see a situation where pixel animation could be frightening.

I guess that might be possible by employing music/sound, jumpscares and such.
has the animation itself to look scary? serious question, since i'm still brainstormin ideas :)

The majority of the "scares' will come through using Audio and creative writing/cinematography. The art should be clean or reflect the story being told. See last years collab for examples. I personally would like to see nice clean artwork with great story. I understand that not everybody is an artist, but at least show that you put forth some effort.

TL;DR : Art doesn't have to be scary, but should reflect your story.

I won't be able to start animating until after June 30th. After that date you'll expect some teasers.

That's fine man, I wanted to post the collab way early this year to give people as much time as possible. I've got my part planned out but haven't started final animation yet due to busy work around the house. So I understand your situation.

Sure, can't wait to see what you come up with. Just keep in mind this is going to be a high quality collaboration. So any parts that aren't up to standards will not be in the final piece.

I'd be interested in taking part. I'm sure I'd be up to par, but just check my shit anyway and give me the go ahead. I don't want to waste my time here.

With the gore though, just to be clear, blood is okay but internal organs are not?
