Im heavily inspired by maniac mansion and love games that run on internal clocks for set events to put stress and pressure on the player.
What games did you enjoy involving twists and alternative story changes??
Heres a screenshot of a room from the game.
I recall Metal Gear Solid (on PSX) having more twists than was necessary
the colonel's been fired
miller is actually liquid snake
it was all a ruse to get snake to launch metal gear
meryl is made of roast pork
etc

Well, not a twist ending game but I suggest you check out a game called The Detective on Commodore 64. Game is basic as fuck really and if you know what you're doing you can complete it in like 5-10 minutes, but I imagine it has a look and feel of what you're trying to do. You can youtube a playthrough if its easier but I recommend playing it. Its got some nice deaths.
Good luck man. I fucking love murder mystery games and I would play the shit out of that.

I just watched a longplay of that, and I have to say I sadly find it very poor. No character reacts AT ALL to anything you ask or try to show them. Whether it be asking about a person, or the will, or a murder weapon clearly covered in blood on their bed. Sure they may not have been the murderer themselves, but come on! You are a detective and you can't even force people to speak when you clearly find very incriminating evidence in their room?
Personally I would promote the Ace Attorney Phoenix Wright games as "murder mystery" as they are based around protecting your client from accusations and using logic and evidence to discover the truth both in court and outside of court. It very much has a "who dun it" aspect to it....even though at some times it may be a little clear as some people clearly look evil right from the get-go, but other times it will surprise and twist around. The journey is always amazing and interesting.
