What about scraping yourself? It's not as bad as a cut. Where does that fit?
Like say scraping old skin off. Scraping off callouses or some such. Kind of hurts but then kind of feels good but kinda hurts.

I don't think it normally works that way, I definitely never felt any urge to "cut deeper". What can be a problem is when people move where they cut. For example, if somebody usually cuts their upper arms where there aren't any veins but runs out of space, they might cut their wrists which is far more dangerous. Another thing is that if cutting yourself is established as a coping mechanism, catastrophes (ie: the death of a loved one) might push someone to self harm harder or more than their body can handle.

Cutting isn't really addictive like that though, I mean you keep doing it but it's not like you really feel the need to get a bigger fix.

Both radically different things started because of radically different reasons. Shouldn't reaaally be compared
