animating characters in vehicles

I'm familiar with basic flash animation, however, the project I'm working on now is a bit more advanced. I've got a lot of scenes where characters are animated (both movement and dialogue) while they're driving or flying in vehicles. I'm finding this a bit daunting, as I end up having the dialogue out of sync or too many layers within layers out of place.

Can anyone point me to any tutorials that cover this kind of animation is specific?

Symbols. Animate the characters in a symbol, animate the character driving the vehicle with a wheel. Then a symbol for the interior of the vehicle and the exterior and you sandwich the character animation symbol in between the interior and exterior symbols. Then, put all that into it's own symbol so the vehicle can move around while the character animation is happening. I hope that helps.
