No. (Most) mainstream music sucks nowadays and has for years. That's a pretty huge difference.
If you like listening to the radio and don't get satellite radio, try a college radio station if there is one.

Even of mainstream music though there's some good stuff, it's just you're probably so used to crap and when you mix steak with crap you still end up with crap. Don't like Katy Perry, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus etc...? Good! I don't either. But there's also some decent stuff like Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Ellie Goulding, LMFAO, and so forth.

What I think is that you're probably listening to most if not all "mainstream" music. And I get sick of hearing people complaining that all music sucks when they almost only listen to that. There are millions of bands out there. And I can guarantee that there are a shit load of recent American bands and musicians that are good and that you'd like if you went out and actually looked for it.
