A bunch of animal cells make us up. They have food vacuoles and shit. They eat they exist they socialize. It's amazing. But we are controlled by them. We are the borg. A bunch of cells grouped up together to create this big thing they could control. And this thing fufills all their needs. It gets food and feeds them.
I had been thinking our brains created the rest of us to keep it alive and entertained and adapted and stuff. But no, it's the cells. We exist for them. To serve them. They control all our actions.

I mean do they have regular meetings in a coffee shop?
They interact. They repel or attract. They bond or covalent bond. They split up. They move around each other. Thy react to each other. They are alive.

And none of them can think of shit. They don't have brains. A nucleus is the closest to that. But collectively they do have a mind and a conscious. But no individual ones do, only as a whole do they.
And a normal one celled organism is governed by quantum physics. But once a bunch of them group up they ALSO become susceptible to physics laws.
It's amazing.

Sensationalism, are you trying to use this as a metaphor for society, or...?

"A hen is only an egg's way of making another egg." - Samuel Butler
Fun thread. I propose that while the cells may indeed control us the cells themselves are but unwitting tools of the replicating molecules. In our case DNA. Some scientists do indeed believe that the structure of the cell developed first and the reproducing molecule later, but I prefer the theory that the replicating molecule developed first. Such a molecule would have been exposed to damage if it had been bare, so the first to manufacture or attract a protective coating of protein would have had a significant survival advantage.
Life could have begun through simple chemical reactions that formed DNA. Once DNA was formed it protected it's own survival with selfish determination. Over billions of years, the genetic information stored in living things kept those qualities that favored survival and discarded the rest. This gave rise to multicellular life in great abundance and diversity. All of which exists for one purpose, to replicate and pass on it's DNA. Therefore, all living matter is merely the physical expression of DNA's mindless determination to continue it's existence.
Just speculating.
