The world sends its best athletes to these Games. Having these games take place in an unsuitable and dangerous environment would jeopardize athletes' safety, health, and would not provide an essential environment to bring out the best performances of these athletes. I, ..., hereby support the moving of the 2016 Olympic Games from Rio De Janeiro, to a cleaner, safer, and more tourist friendly location.

If they can hold it in S. Africa, they can hold it in Rio. Besides, I always thought Olympic-Drug-Cartel-Beheading should be a sport. Something actually worth watching Unlike that "Olympic Speed Walking" shit.

South Africa is far better than Rio. Rio has sewage and garbage flowing into the rivers constantly, there's no way athletes want to put up with that. And besides, Rio started cleaning too late and is behind schedule worse than Sochi and Greece. London already has most venues available. I think today, the IOC said something about an event taking place in London. They need to act quickly.

This. Really all I got to say.
Petition won't work.
I've been to Rio De Janeiro and it's fine as long as you stay in the heavily populated tourist areas, which would be where the atheletes would be. Just don't go to the less populated areas.

That's the Olympic spirit. Say no to discrimination, but I'm not going in that shithole they call a city with these filthy Brazilian rats.

Lol at people who take Fox "News" seriously.
Where would be a more suitable place to hold the 2016 Olympics then? The Olympic venues will be complete by then, and it's not like they didn't know about all this beforehand, hell the Winter Olympics were held in a warm-weather port in Russia, Rio can't possibly be that bad with the Summer Games.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

Following the OP logic we should do it at Madagascar, because they have clean beaches
I think we're all missing the point here. You've seen how batshit crazy these people go over the outcome of soccer games. And you're putting the world's largest sports event there?!?
Give them some time to clean up around the general area where the Olympics will be held, and you'll have fuck-all to worry about.

Wait....like the band Simple Plan? Or....?
Winter 2014 Olympics were held extremely close to the hotbed of insurgence violence. Rio ain't shit compared to most places.
I would like to see the Olympics held on a deserted island though. That would be pretty neat.

Oh or they can host it in america BETTER YET host my back yard so i can watch
Think before you post my south african friend
I still think Chicago should've gotten the 2016 Olympics but at this point it's too late to move it, i honestly doubt there's any place that has the logistical power the set up an entire Olympic park in 2 years in a prudent matter.

China, maybe. They have the man power (minimum wage slave workers) to pull it off, at least. And their opening ceremony last time wasn't bad :D But I mean, it's whatever...Maybe Chicago will get it for the 2024 since 2020 is already decided to be Tokyo.

South Africa never hosted the Olympics. They hosted the World Cup.
Any way, I think Rio will be a phenomenal venue for the Olympics. It works well hosting it after the World Cup as there will be an astounding amount of infrastructure contributed to the city and the rest of Brazil, including transport, venues, housing, etc. I understand that some regions of Brazil have issues, but that shouldn't dampen the entire games, and the significance of security is already a prevalent issue in the lead up to the World Cup and games.
Brazil is a lively, fantastic sporting nation with a real passion for all competition. It's a great place to host it. The games should be brought to all continents, not just between America and Europe ever 4 years.
The 1936 Olympics were held in Nazi Germany. Get over yourself.

Well, I kinda worry about if any of the world leaders or atheles got kidnapped and the favela people perform necklacing. Granted, OP was kinda right. Rio is a fucking urban savage jungle.

Manpower is only part of it though, unless they want to re-use Beijing's Olympic Park, you'd have to pick a site, get that site approved and design the park before that. Those are the long bureaucratic processes that would prevent it from being completed in 2 years.
the Olympic committee has it all scheduled out for upcoming ,Olympic games, and Rio has already spent all this time preparing in construction. Not a good idea.

I kinda wish they picked Madrid or Tokyo (earlier). As nice as it sounds having the Olympics in Chicago, it would have been a complete stress. The city would have gone into more debt and traffic would be a disaster. Traffic is already bad here, Imagine bumper to bumper traffic a few hours away from the city trying to get to the city. We already have a few venues (UC, ASA, SF) but we would need to build the Olympic village and possibly another Stadium. I'd suggest Boston or San Diego if the US wants to make a bid in the future. (-Coming from me who lives near Chicago)
