3.93 / 5.00 4,634 ViewsJust a heads up for you guys, I have just found another person on youtube taking stuff from newgrounds and uploading it on their channel and monetizing it.
You can find his channel here.
Not only was one of my songs monetized without permission, I've noticed quite a few other newgrounds artists, of whom I will tag below to make sure they see this, that have stuff on this guys channel. The guy has nearly 16,000 subscribers, and is monetizing your stuff.
I have already sent the guy a message telling him to turn off the monetization or remove the video with my song in it, if he doesn't, I will issue a copyright strike against his channel, and I encourage anyone else that has stuff there without their consent to do the same.
If you're fine with him doing this... that's your choice, but personally, I don't like the idea of someone making money for doing nothing more than uploading other peoples work to youtube... without their personal consent even.

I never said it was. I just get very upset when people monetize my shit without my permission. It's in breach of the creative commons license, you cannot deny that.
I don't care if he only makes a few cents, it's the principle of the matter. I have to work my ass off every day to make a living, while someone somewhere else in the world is making money by doing nothing more than uploading other peoples stuff. If he had asked permission, or if I had approached him and said, "Hey, I wanna promote my song, upload it to your channel for me.", I wouldn't care.
But he didn't. He took something of mine, uploaded it elsewhere and is making money off of it. That does not sit right with me.

So it's just no big deal to steal from dozens of artists for profit? Why is it that it's okay for him to likely make more money off of these songs than the creators do, when he puts in zero work for it? He's even has the audacity to say "No you can't yell at me for it because newgrounds uses a creative commons license, and put up a link to exactly what a creative commons license means when he clearly didn't even read it himself.
I think it's worth highlighitng this part in the "about" section
"Any artists wishing to have their song removed or video info changed, please send me a message with proof of your identity/rights to the song and your request will be granted."
Reading topics like this actualy makes me feel happy that my own music is too shity to be stolen. :D
I've just sent a private message to this guy on Youtube since he published a video with one of my old tracks belonging to my now inactive NG account "KKSlider60". Thanks for taking notice of this. If he keeps monetizing without our consent, I'm ready to share this through my channels and make this public.
This is why I hate youtube. Granted, I like making videos and uploading them, but youtube is becoming more and more tedious. Glad my shit isn't there, I looked, but in the past, cant tell ya how many times i had to take down my necromancer theme song from castle crashers. People think it's just ok to upload something. You know who I blame? The people who do let's plays on youtube, using content that isn't theirs, so people think it's just ok to slap on a name without even asking the artist if it's ok first, just upload music alone, or uncredited in videos (happens a lot, even on Newgrounds, I made a video about that in the past).
Youtube used to take those videos down, but now it's harder to manage, but thats what content ID is for i guess but still doesn't help us. Now im going to search later for my stuff again to see if it's anywhere else without my permission. Thanks for making us aware.

So you are KKSlider60???
....Diversion aside, promotion is one thing; monetising others' tracks is another and should not be done, according to the Creative Commons licence. It is as clear-cut as that; I don't understand why people think it isn't.

Yes I am, haha. :)
I'm actually trying to reach another guy on Youtube who asked permission to use a song of mine on his channel, but he asked me in a time I wasn't so knowledgeable with licenses and now I hope he'll remove that track from his video(es). I think he even blatantly said he was going to make money out of it, I was so stupid. //facepalm

ah okay fair enough - got the impression you were being daniel harris'd for a second - and personally I'm always happy when my songs reach a bigger audience when uploaded to youtube
looks like you just need to message him guys to get your videos taken down and this guy/girl doesn't seem like a dick to me and will probs just take em down
I'm actually slightly flattered that apparently my music is good enough for people to try and monetize based off it. That said, I agree that he shouldn't be monetizing the videos without permission.
I'll send him a message, just double-checking.
Stuff.
My AIM piece is found if you clicky the image.
I like the guy's tastes, but monetizing our works like this is extremely insidious, whether it's intentional or not.
I don't mind them spreading love and creation, but making profit off of other people's work is prohibited by law. The argument that taking other people's work through common distribution in forms of advertising in turn for their own revenue is something that I believe should be settled - as of right now, though, it's against creative rights to take other people's work - without permission - and profit off of it. It doesn't matter that they aren't taking it as their own work, they are still making money by simply taking someone's work and redirecting it elsewhere. If you ask me, that doesn't take any work or effort.
You do not make examples, you make excuses; you do not solve problems, you shift problems; you do not stand behind your statements, you stand behind your stasis.

With me, however, the few who do upload my tracks 1) are so sporadic, and 2) do so without my permission. So far I have not found any ads or evidence to suggest monetisation of any kind, but I will need to check back on those videos again and see if this has since changed.

This guy is a well known promoter of newgrounds works, and in every single video he links back to the original song. You can send him a PM if you don't want your music on there, but it's basically free exposure.
I'm not entirely sure I really care about someone monetizing their videos that have my music in them, because it's just not worth getting all uppity about. I have been in personal contact with this guy and I think he's a nice guy who isn't trying to do anything bad.
Again, this guy is one of the good guys. If any of you try to start a riot against this guy I will personally hunt you down and kick you in the balls. This guy does everything right - he provides the artist name, song name, and a link back to wherever he got the song, which provides free publicity to the artist. He is adhering to every part of the creative commons license, except possibly the "noncommercial" clause, since he technically is monetizing the songs.
The thing is, monetizing the song amounts to playing a few ads every now and then, which is exactly like... radio. Yes, he should technically be paying the artists royalties for stream play, but the amount of money would be something like $4 on a per-song basis. This is not worth getting mad about.
This is silly.
Leave the guy alone, damn it.
Also, @back-from-purgatory, if you ACTUALLY send him a copyright strike, I'm going to be pissed, because his channel was already taken down once and subsequently restored. Your copyright strike could end up taking out his entire channel and ruin everyone else's day by getting their music taken off too. That channel is probably one of the largest sources of exposure I have, far exceeding newgrounds itself. If you are pissed off that this guy is probably making like $4 off of your song, then just politely ask for it to be taken down. There's no need to be an asshole about it. Save that for the people who are actually stealing music.
I will not be happy if you fuck him up. Is that absolutely clear?

You're quite the pile of existential diarrhea, aren't you, Asshole12?
It's verily blatant that this is about you, and not the integrity of people's rightful security over their music and the lawful privileges people have over their own creations.
You do not make examples, you make excuses; you do not solve problems, you shift problems; you do not stand behind your statements, you stand behind your stasis.
maybe the ads are an automatic youtube thing? his vids never used to have ads in them, and yeah they've been around forever.
p.s. i am gay
I suspect that Blackhole12 is the guy behind the Youtube account.
Look at his sign up date.
Look at his favorite music.
Look at his "argument".
Look at how "defensive" he is.

Yes... because taking peoples audio, reuploading it to youtube without so much as informing the original creator, let alone asking permission to, and monetizing said videos is something a "good guy" would do.
I don't give a shit if he gives credit, he is breaking the creative commons license, and being an all around asshole if he's taking musicians songs and reuploading them to make a profit off them.
If I wanted someone to promote my stuff for me, I would go out of my way to ask them to. I do not appreciate someone just taking my shit and making money off of it without even telling me they are doing so.
Also, read my fucking post, I HAVE NOT issued a copyright strike against him. I have sent him a message telling him to take my song down or remove the monetization. If he fails to do so within the time frame I gave him, I will issue a copyright strike. I don't give a shit if you see him as some hero of promotion, I will not stand for people taking my music without so much as my knowledge, let alone consent, and start profiting from it.
Do you think it's ok to go to a mom and pop store... grab a product.. walk out without paying and just sell it on the street?
No, of course you don't, that's theft, it might still have the store name on it, you could say, "I'm doing this to give them exposure." It's still fucking theft.

I hope everyone involved will express some civility when dealing with this. I'm thinking this Xmillsa person is a reasonable guy and will be willing to cooperate with all the artists up in arms.

He's adhering to every part of the Creative Commons license safe for when it very explicitly says you can't make any profit out of it, no matter if it's a penny or the US national debt, plus the fact that I was never even notified of his "activity".
I'm completely supportive when it comes to people sharing our songs and create a network that respect the intellectual properties of the authors as they're the ones putting their faces and their hard work for everyone to use under those conditions. This is being rather clear that you are defending the guy simply because he's advertising your own songs and he's granting you plenty of exposure, and if his intentions were really that good as you say, he would at least LET US KNOW beforehand or asked permission as a matter of etiquette.
So if he was really totally oblivious of the license, my hopes are that now he is because I won't back down until I see my song removed or his channel shut, as I very politely asked him to do so, and I suggest anyone here do the same thing.

Insanctuary here with some detective work: Blackhole12 is a liar, and a cheat. This man is the Youtube scoundrel, and you can see the desperation for money by simply reading into his front page advertisement of his own music. Go to the first video on his Youtube account the first song is a song from Psybot wa sposted on March 10, 2008, now look at this picture and what do you see at March 15, 2008? There's other songs he's reviewed and favorited in a pattern that is too suspicious to call a coincidence.

In regards to the youtube channel, I've spoken to its owner in the past about him uploading my own song. While him monetizing his videos makes me a little uncomfortable, I was completely okay with him crediting me and linking to my page so listeners could find my other songs.
Considering the content isn't his, I guess we could talk to him about taking down monetization, but otherwise, I'm perfectly fine with him doing this.

There's no need to go all 'Dick Tracy' on this guy. Just wait and see if he responds to your request to remove your content. If he doesn't listen, hit him with a copyright strike.

The only reason I posted this thread was because he's monetizing stuff that isn't his without the consent of the artists. If he were posting NG users songs without monetization, I would not have thought twice about it.
The issue isn't that he's reposting it, the issue is that he is reposting it to make money off of it without the permission of the artists.
