of course they do. and these two concepts are related to each other.
antimatter shares identical properties with matter, except antimatter opposite charge.
so essentially, if you have a electron moving in one direction, you get a current. antimatter can be imterpreted as the same electron going back in time.

antimatter has to exist in order to maintain casualty (relativity) one way to see this: imagine an electron travelling in the positive x direction. because of relativity, the probability for an electron to travel faster than light should 0. but when you do the calculations, the probaility does not vanish if there is no such thing as antimatter.

by allowing electrons to go back in time with the same probability, (and hence the existence of antimatter), you can get a cancellation, and thus, recovering relativity.

by the way, i see relativity as the same as space-time continuum.

(to put it simply, consider the simplest case where charged scalar particles are excitations of a complex field, which is non-hermitian. so you again you need two types of creation and anhinlation operators,... the same argument works for other types of fields)
