My library is free I think, and it provides a lot of information.

With the exception of the taxpayer's dollars, normal public libraries are free, as long as there aren't any late fees.

Yeah, I used the wrong word.

Should've just said "open-air"

I think it's a cute idea. But do these areas not have REAL libraries? Because it's just a smaller shittier version of a real library. Not sure why someone with access to an actual library would have any interest in something like this.
The idea, I think, is to share with your neighbours. It is not meant to replace actual libraries. It is just creating social link out of books and it is as super great idea to me and I wish there was one in the neighbourhood...

Actually, I want to import that shit to France.

Already done with a real library though. More effectively too rather than *MAYBE* I'll run into someone. You definitely will interact with others if you go to a real library.

I guess someone like me could benefit cuz nobody's gonna be like "oh hey, you owe fiddy dollas in fines, go away til you pay:

I think the real issue is the fact that people are actually donating to this Kickstarter.

One of these could be built at little cost. Why do they need to collect money?

Yeah, this kind of defeats the purpose of a "free" library....I thought these typically came out of the pocket of the person whose idea it was. How much is the one who's organizing the Kickstarter putting in??? Anyway, overall I don't think this is that terrible of an idea, personally. Who's gonna try to make off with 20-30 books? Or 5-10?

"Oh I'm gonna make so much money boosting books these suckers will never see it coming"
And if the picture is any indication, I presume that at least this will be placed in a very public and open area where, yes, someone can just walk by and snatch the books, but it can also be watched over by other people. Besides, they might install a nearby hidden camera? If this thing is placed in front of their yard or something...

This has way too much room for awesomeness. You could put comics, homemade stories, and it gives a good repository for excess books.

Also squirrels. I wonder how many people have put squirrels in these things yet and filmed the results. If none, then we know what we must do...
