I've always hated MTV. I remember back in the day when they would play music videos and I had this job where I had to install these microwave ovens and move these refrigerators and color TVs. I'd be like damn man that's the way you do it, banging on the bongoes like a chimpanzee. That ain't working.

I'd go a little back and say Mtv started to suck around 98-99, when they started to give more airtime to reality shows, programs that had little to do with music and rotate more videos of bubblegum pop crap like N'Synk and Britney and less videos of alternative rock bands.

Around 1999 when there were less videos, and pop shit took over.

It sucks because of your generation watching crappy fake reality tv shows like Kardashians and Jersey Shore.

Mtv was cool when it had liquid television, the maxx, the head, and beavis & butthead. Tho that was a different generation, and it probably wasn't bringing in the ratings like fake reality television.

It started to suck when they aired Jersey Shore. But honestly, I barely care about MTV. MTV is now a dependent network on money (with Viacom's help) and they make stupid reality shows whenever they feel like it.

The Maxx was cool too.

I loved all that experimental animation back in the day.

MTV has about 10% good shows while 90% of them are either about couples or drama. Then, there was music videos, there was nothing but stupidity.

I haven't really watched anything on MTV for quite a while, but Human Giant was on in 2007-2008, and it's fantastic! Here are a few of my favorite sketches: one, two & three!!

Looking at the opening of this thread, I kind of wish supermofo was here to make this and the topic was called "When Did MTV Start to Suck?"

Oh well.

Anyway, I never was a big fan of MTV, but I have to say the reality show takeover was when MTV began to suck. Decay began before that (Beavis and Butthead and Celebrity Deathmatch for example), but those weren't bad shows at first.
