What do you think of Security? 2014-05-12 12:31:48 Reply

I am currently doing a Market Research project in education that requires plenty of respondents to respond to my survey about security, and thus would be nice if I could get more opinions about security. In particular, Internet surveillance. The Research project is aimed at answering the ultimate question: How does security affect business communication?

You can find the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ThinkSecurity

Thank you for your patience and your time in completing this 10 question survey (2 are optional). Please leave any additional feedback here if you wish

That was unnecessarily uncalled for. I am assuming you are attempting to troll me, and so I will report you momentarily for violating this websites Terms of Use.

Thank you for reply.

Technically it is up to you whether or not you wish to complete the survey. I am doing a Level 5 Business course at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College in the UK, and one of the tasks in this project is to get primary and secondary research. Primary being surveys, secondary be anything else that is not otherwise related, such as website links and references to books.

The more people that can answer the questions on the survey, the more accurate the results will be. Currently there are only 5 respondents at the time of this reply, and would be good if I could get a lot more. But as I said, it is up to you, and I am not forcing anyone to do anything.

Didn't think it was such a major issue :) I thought it was okay to ask people on the Internet, more results is better, and the Internet is full of people, and not necessarily the odd 10 from college that might pick up the flyer. Plus, I'd rather save the trees, just saying!

I'm pretty sure referencing the rules is not bannable; otherwise why would you put a rules on a website and not allow people to reference the rules to ignorant rule-breakers? Defeats the point of the rules, don't you think?

Mmm yeah, well. Just offer both men and women fellatio if they complete it, that ought to reel in results.

LMAO. In the UK I will probably get kicked out of my college for being perverted and using sex as offers for completion, which in theory is considered prostitution but since money is not involved I am not entirely sure. Still, I am presuming that is a joke, but I would like to add that I wouldn't risk it either way :)

Never said it was, but you seem to have a really shitty attitude towards people saying something you don't agree with, and you try to threaten them with the rules. There's a difference between referring to the rules and what you've just been doing.

otherwise why would you put a rules on a website and not allow people to reference the rules to ignorant rule-breakers?

They are there so the moderators know what they should be enforcing, and they are also there so people know what can get them banned, and what is 100% fine to post. The rules aren't there for people to spit out at one another and cry for the moderators to come and ban someone because you disagree with what they have said. If you have a problem with someone's post, PM a mod about it, it's that easy. There's no reason what so ever for you to announce that you're doing so, it just encourages more people to shitpost in your thread, and act hostile towards yourself.

Defeats the point of the rules, don't you think?

Not at all, read above at the points I just made.

Good luck with your survey anyway, OP.

CCTV cameras are much more ubiquitous in England. Also, doesn't the phrase "our law" imply your local or federal law? I don't know if I should fill out your survey.

"our law" implies local laws. But if you don't want to fill out the survey, it's your choice.

By the way, for those who think this is some sort of scam, I feel amused to a certain extent because it is not a scam in any way, shape or form.

I am legitimately on a Business course which requires me to get some questions together for people to answer.

Then I apologise for implying said blame and threatening another user, and also apologise to Ali for threatening her.

This thread is about the survey, and not a rant at how bad I am as a person, maybe that should be kept in Private Messages. As they say, "you learn something every day." And I have learned not to use the rules to threaten people, and instead to PM a moderator if I feel a post threatens me and is rule-breaking. That I will keep in mind for later reference.

Can we get back on topic now?

lol. Almost every degree/vocational degree has a last year Market Research or Personal Project that will require research or study in some way, shape or form. This has been done for decades, especially surveys! Yes, of course, traditionally it was done by giving out flyers. But the Internet is here for a reason so I might as well use it to my advantage, otherwise I am leaving out quite possibly the most used medium to date, which defeats the point of a Market Research project if I may be honest.

"What are you majoring in?"

Now that I think about it, I think I understand your question. I'm British, so the question "What are you qualifying in?" is a more understandable question, and technically I had already answered that in the OP.

However, I will mention again. I am attempting to qualify in a vocational degree (or a Level 5 in my case) in Business (that is literally the name of the course, just Business - it covers everything from law, finance, communication, behaviour which involves both the behaviour of individual's and how they are encouraged to get on with work with theories such as Maslow's pyramid, marketing and market research (which is the topic I'm currently on) and business strategy) and hope to aim for Triple Distinction (Triple Distinction Star is actually possible, but actually requires me to get a Distinction in every single unit, and that is not possible for me now).

I'm actually behind on coursework, surprisingly, and behind on this very coursework - that being Market Research - because I have been unable to get adequate amounts of respondents for my survey which is required to complete this work! If I don't get at least 10 respondents by Wednesday, which is why I am sharing this thing as much as possible right now, I will be officially behind on coursework and I may not even get a presentation together to share a good amount of results to get me the grade I actually want in this course.

I need results, badly, no matter how much, 10 at the VERY least. If I'm generous enough, I may provide a link to my finished document later on in this thread as proof that I did collect these results for legitimate reasons. And I think I will because this is valuable information, not just for the course but for everyone. Security is a very top issue at the moment, and this report is not only value to the public, it's value to governments as well believe or not.

Again, it is entirely your choice whether or not you wish to put 5 minutes of your time into answering 8 required questions, most of which you can answer "N/A" or "Neutral" respectively, but that just defeats the point of the survey if people do that consistently and would in fact cause inaccuracy in the results. So some honesty is required to ensure that at least 99% of these results are accurate. :)

I know this sounds like a lot to take in but I am so interested in the security side of things, and I am one of the people who is against Internet Surveillance and I want to help to improve the legal situation, but I can't do that without other people's help.

One more time, though. Just to be on the safe side. This is entirely voluntary, you do not need to fill in this survey and I do not intend in forcing you to do so, but it would be nice if people could do so to help me. If you don't, then fair enough.

I am not trying to troll you, but I think this is not the appropriate site to post this kind of stuff on, I thought the survey was interesting though, and the topic was interesting. P.S When you post this kind of stuff on the site, you should do this type of topic into the Politics posts.

Although I think you're probably some kind of student with some kind of memorable attributes, the first rule of the intertrons is to not trust anybody, so I will not click on your link or share my opinions aside from the one that I have already shared.

If you can't glean how I feel about security from that... Then you might not be in college for the right reasons.

CCTV is a fucking joke.

I'm dead serious. I know a guy who's a sec consultant came up with so many way to defeat from cheap to very high end camera. Many of these CCTV systems hooked up with the Internet. All you gotta do is google dorking them or use SHODAN. Then exploit and gain access to the network.

Many security guards are very undertrained. And most of them don't have the concept about security and safety. What I mean is common sense.

The Market Research project's title is "Security and its effects on Business and Communication"

The idea is to explain to the reader how security affects business and communication by answering the following questions:

1. After the discovery of computers and the Internet, how has legislation taken effect on the use of Internet communication?
2. Is electronic surveillance actually legal?
3. What the right to privacy is actually defined as in Human Rights.
4. How has surveillance affected business communication?
5. When is surveillance reasonable enough to justify its existence?

Those are the questions I need to answer for my project.
