What kind of books do you like ? Sci-Fi ? Fantasy ?

People can give you better ideas if you tell them what you like.

Hmmm... books, depends on how old you are.
Being 18, i cant recommend any books for you, because i'm only a tender 15. I wouldn't read Lord of the rings,i found it very dull and pointless. Even the good actiony bits are buried under mountains of detail. Most of the phillip pullman books are good (golden compass, Northen lights, Subtle KNife, Amber spyglass, tin princess etc.)
Mr men are always good for a laugh

Shogun by James Clavell. Heavy going, but a great Samurai Epic.

Saga of the exiles (Series) by Julian May. Time travel, Aliens and Psionics. Great fun

Discworld (Series) by Terry Pratchett. Funny and such a good parallel to real life.

I, Robot. by Isaac Assimov. There's a movie about it out soon, but I think the book is good.

There's a great book. It's called "A beginners guide to life: How I learnt to find something more interesting to do than read books when there's nothing on TV."

Try the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Cofler.

One of them is surely The Red Rabbit.

Another suggestion to the starter of the topic, how about The Art of War by Sun Szu. Haven't read it yet but every friend of mine said it's good.
