Today sees the Ducks putting the Stars on the brink of elimination with a lopsided 6-2 victory at home, the Flyers pull even with New York with a 2-1 victory at home, and the Blackhawks take a stranglehold on the Blues with a game 5 overtime win to go up 3-2 in the series.

A lot of eery similarities for the Blues to last year; Both this season and last they've gone up 2-0 on the defending cup champion at home. Both times the first two games went to overtime, with the same player (Steen and Jackman) scoring the overtime winner in the same game each year. Additionally, the scorelines of their game 4 and 5 losses, 4-3 and 3-2, were the same scores they lost by last season. The Blackhawks can move on to the next round with a win Sunday afternoon, or the Blues can force a game 7 back in St. Louis.

Very bad reffing in the Detroit vs Boston match... Can't believe that the Wings are getting so many penalties and the Bruins so little.

It took them only one game to wake up this year compared to game 7 of the first round like last year. Canadiens don't have a hope in hell.

The Wild again can't hold a final minute lead against Colorado, who tied the game late and eventually won it in overtime in much the same fashion as game one. The Avs now have a 3-2 series lead with a Colorado-Chicago matchup in the second round now looking likely.

The Kings have suddenly found their stride, taking game 5 by a score of 3-0 in San Jose to force a game 6 back in LA.

Makes me wonder, when did they became the St. Louis Blues of the 80's and 90's? All of the success in the regular season, but constantly flame out in the playoffs, it's not hard to see similarities between both teams, though St. Louis did go to 3 straight Stanley Cups in the days of hippies. (Not winning a single game in the Finals though)

That was my pick for the NHL bracket challenge (for a potential $15,000 I'll hide my Blackhawks bias), with Boston winning the cup. Rarely do we ever see the two top seeds facing off in the final in any sport, but this year I think it's a definite possibility, if not the most likely matchup.

So in terms of predictions and results so far. I said Boston would win in 6 and they won in 5.

I had predicted Pens in 5 over Columbus, but the series will go to a 6th match.

I said Montreal in 5 and they won in 4 :)

I said Rangers in 7 and the series is going to a 6th match!`

I predicted Anaheim in 5, but they won in 6.

I said Colorado in 5, but it is going in a 6th match.

I predicted Hawks in 7, but they won in 6.

And at last, I predicted LA in 6, but they are losing 3-2 right now and there will be a 6th match. I'm still hoping for the series to reach a 7th match and LA to win this.

Three games on schedule tonight!

First up it's game 6 between the Penguins and Blue Jackets, followed by game 6's between the Avs/Wild and Sharks/Kings. Pittsburgh, Colorado, and San Jose can all clinch their series with wins tonight. With a win tonight, Los Angeles can become just the second team in the last 40 years to force a game 7 after going down 3 games to none.

The Penguins just won the series. Regardless, Columbus still managed to come back in the game from a 4-0 deficit to a close game of 4-3. Very impressive!

I still think that this is bad news for the Penguins... Fleury's performances are shaky and they can't hope to make it far in the playoffs if he doesn't bring his game up.
