I just assume he was sexting with his girlfriend like you said, and then he wanted to show off to his friends so he showed it to them and one of them squealed on him.

This isn't the first instance of children behaving like animals towards each other.
There have been numerous cases in the US of young school children who are forcing one another to perform sexual acts for no apparent reason so something like this shouldn't come as a surprise anymore.

I get this, but there are still further issues. Even if there was no kid harmed "in this specific situation", distribution of child pornography is still problematic. You can't assume that the kid if fully able to consent or evaluate the possible impacts of distributing porn of him/herself. Just think about all the blackmail stories we hear, or teenage girls getting their shit posted on the Interned without their consent. Also, psychologists have observed that there is a correlation between child porn consumption and actual assaults and rapes on kids. Also, distributing cp encourages people to search for it. And in the end, there will be kids getting hurt by this.

Not to say that the teenagers who do this kind of stuff should be prosecuted, but their acts have much more importance then what they'd think.
