I know this thread has been made multiple times before, but most end-of-the-world theories on forums revolve around pretty unlikely scenarios - meteors, zombies, a pandemic, or something in that vein. A frighteningly realistic possibility occurred to me recently.

Temperatures above 107.6F will begin to fry your brain. With growing population density, there are more people and more households using more power to keep indoor temperatures cooler. More importantly, increasing extremes in weather could turn this into a serious problem - already 42 out of 50 states have had temperatures exceeding those necessary to cause brain damage, and those temperatures are going to become progressively more common. So... What would happen if our power grid experienced rolling blackouts when reaching these record highs? It's also possible that rather than a blackout, a bunch of people could be wiped out by a terrorist attack on a power plant.

I might be missing something here, but it sounds like this could be a big problem. Thoughts?

It turns out that Earth is just one big alien experiment and the aliens decide to cancel the experiment, because they are no longer interested in us.

Genuinely hope you're right. I think if we can go a thousand years without getting trigger happy, we should be there and safe. By the point Earth's gone, of course, we'd barely be "human" anymore. What we'll become is the more interesting question to me.

Off topic - has anyone written a sci fi novel with various species of future-humans? Like, various species with humans as the common ancestor? Shit'd be soooooo dope.

Just because the ambient temperature exceeds some amount doesn't mean the internal temperature regulation of the body gives out. Realistic, my sweaty ass. Maybe if there was a world-wide drought we'd all go Mad Max for some of that good-ass liquid drank.

It all depends on what form is chosen for the Destructor.

This world will be completely gone in 4 or 5 billion years, because the sun is goring in size as it gets older, and at that time, it will be the size as Mars' orbit, meaning the sun will basically swallow Earth.

That's not how if fucking works. If your body temperature is above that point or so organ damage begins to occur, but it would have to be much hotter than 107 degrees to keep your body temperature over that point.
