Continue the Story Collab 2014-03-29 20:51:23

Hey guys! First of all, this topic is a continuation of the 120-frame collab.
I decided to make a new topic, so I can explain all of the rules in the opening post.

So, the point of this collab is to continue from where the previous animator left off, and see what kind of story we end up telling. I'd like to keep this collab going for a while, and see where it takes us. There's no set end point yet, The idea is to just keep it going until we're satisfied.

Flash Specifications
Resolution: 960x540
Framerate: 24fps
Flash Version: Flash 8 or higher

Each animator will get 120 frames to work with at 24fps, giving each person a 5-second clip to animate.
There's a 1-week deadline for each 120-frame part.

Here's a preview of the first part, animated by me

After an animator is finished, they will upload the fla file, and send it to me via private message... at which point I will send that file, via PM, to the next animator in the queue.
If it's your turn to animate, but you're really busy that week and don't think you'll be able to finish in time, feel free to pass it along to the next contributor, and I'll move you down one spot in the queue, giving you some more time to prepare.

The queue will be listed here: http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/da7c7e5753ca9ce98068ccacfe47168c
That list will be updated often, so feel free to check it frequently.

To get added to the queue, simply post something in this topic saying that you're interested in contributing, or that you'd like to be added, I'll add people in the order that they've posted.
If you'd like to do multiple parts, feel free to comment again to put yourself back on the queue, but ONLY after you've completed your current part.

As for audio, there's nothing set in stone yet. If you'd like to include sound effects or voice acting in your 120-frame part, feel free, but avoid adding music (as 5 seconds isn't usually enough for any kind of music)...
Once we finish the entire thing, we can discuss ideas for what kind of music to include, if any... as well as perhaps getting some consistent voice actors, if needed.

So how does one send an uploaded animation to someone else, I've only been on Newgrounds for a few months D: I'm pretty clueless, sorry for the hassle of explaining.

Graham, if you are getting jagged lines with your tablet, one of three things could be happening:

- Your drivers are not properly installed
- Your tablet pen's batteries are dying / not connecting
- Your computer is having trouble running the program while recognizing your tablet at the same time

The first issue can be resolved by visiting your tablet manufacturer's website. The second is self explanatory, unless the conductor inside is broken. The third can be tested by using a lower-impact program such as Paint Tool SAI or even MS Paint to draw and see if it disrupts your lines.

Anyway...

I should have never looked at the queue D: I am getting super anxious waiting for my turn.

Haha, you and me, both :P
Although, I guess I'm less anxious and instead just eagerly anticipating what everybody is going to come up with :D

Hmm... Yeah, that would work. As long as it's done at the proper framerate, and in the proper aspect ratio (16:9), I would be able to just embed the mov into the flash file.

I'll add you to the queue. :)

Ok, I added you back onto the queue.

Also, I saw your post on the other topic. I'll be sure to put all of the names in the corner after the full project is completed, complete with links to each person's Newgrounds profile.

Anybody have any ideas for what font we should use?
I was thinking perhaps "Government Agent BB"

Hmmm, well... that's something I've been thinking about recently.
I feel like I want to try and get as many people in this thing as possible, but I also realize that it's already getting somewhat sizable.
22 people have currently signed up for the project, and there's currently 24 spots on the queue that have been taken.

I didn't create the queue with any kind of end goal in mind. However, part of me thinks that it might be kind of cool to stick with the theme of "120", and have the maximum number of spots on the queue be 120. This would mean that's 120 5-second parts being animated, meaning 600 seconds, which means exactly 10 minutes of animation, and exactly 14400 frames of animation.
Of course, that also means this collaboration would keep going for a while. Each part having a deadline of 1 week, considering some people will finish before the end of 7 days, and some people will be move their part onto the backburner, that would put my estimates anywhere between 100 weeks and 140 weeks...

Of course, that's only if we put it on that kind of scale, with 120 parts.
Currently, I would estimate anywhere between 20 - 30 weeks for completion with the current members.

Part of me wants to shorten the deadline for each part, but I also feel like 1 week is already pretty short in the animation world.

What does everybody think?

I have an idea. Why not send the sketch draft to the next person?
That way they would now how the part goes and can start earlier.
They can at least plan what they want to happen and wait till the finished version is shown to them before doing the final.

(Sorry if it can't work like that I thought it might work)

120 weeks...

Well, it would be 120 weeks if everybody took exactly 1 week. However, if somebody finished sooner, it would take less time.
Also, if somebody takes a week and then doesn't finish, and it gets passed onto the next person, that's another week added to the 120...

Hmmm, I like that... that might be a good way to do it.
Have one person create an animatic, or a rough draft for their part, then they'd send it to the next person. This would allow me to cut down the running deadline to something around 1 or 2 days.
Then everybody can work on their part separately, at their leisure, for the final deadline, down the road. This would also allow me to keep it at an absurdly large scale of 120 different parts.

Well, if I'm changing the rules, I might as well change the topic again...

sheesh, maybe I should just keep all of the rules in that text file that I keep updating, this way if I change anything, it'll be easy to edit.
