It sort of destroys the purpose of Marriage,
Actually, the purpose of marriage (which FYI is far older than the Bible) is legal. Marriage is a state/social institution meant to join two non-blood people into the same family. That is the basic rule and has been the only contant of marriage throughout history.
not only that but it contradicts the bible.
Since when did the Bible have any say over what our secular government does?
You know, the fact that the place they're being married in is built for the reading of bibles really stresses that point.
If the church doesn't want to marry them, the church is 100% ok to not marry them. There are numerous other secular locations to be married. I married on the campus of a public university. Don't see how that would hurt anyone.
It also turns something which is horribly morally wrong into a civil right.
Just like you attempt to ingrain outward discrimintion of others based on a solely prvate act into law?
"The denial of the social and legal status of marriage to forms of cohabitation that are not and cannot be marital is not opposed to justice; on the contrary, justice requires it"
Yes, because the Vatican has a squeaky clean record when it comes to sex...
You tell another that refuting your words misses the bigger picture. Well then, what exactly IS the bigger picture here? That your morals are more important than everyone else's? That what another does that has nothing to do with you should be under your control? What?
