I knew this would happen. My grandpa went on a little trip telling me how I'm not going to make it in life without the church.
He comes up telling me it's a mistake not to go on a mission. That's my fucking choice! I'm not going to have a shitty life because I choose not to follow an ancient tradition. He's basically telling me I'm going to be miserable without going to church for the rest of my life. Trying to yank me back into the fucking system I was raised in, I see.
It's not my fault if my mom feels like shit because I don't go to church. I'm sorry that my mom feels that way, but I'm not responsible for how somebody else feels. They're basing their happiness off of how I'm living, which is bullshit. Good luck being happy, you old fucks!
If I'm not doing it their way, it's wrong and I'm going to hell for it. Fuck that. I'm going to be happy in my life no matter what the fuck happens because I can think for myself. Fucking religious fucks. I don't hate or disagree with religion, but fuck, I feel like going pure Atheist when my family tries to guilt me back into something I don't believe.
I love you grandpa, but fuck off.
Jah Bless.......

I too find it annoying when someone says I should go back to church and that they are sad I don't go. Not my fault they're sad.

Get a job and have some hours overlap your parents' church hours. Or tell them you feel closer to God when you have your dick in your hand. We all know that's all you do when your family is at church anyways.

Athiest here...
In regards to be fair about the church... And religion for that matter...
Good on you!
You can... "spread the word of the lord" here, and still sleep in your bed every night if you absolutly had to do something as a mission :/
Live the way you want to, and remember, Atheism used to be the 16th most followed belief in the world... Now its like 3rd?
Or second or something...
Its rising, and you never get an athiest complaining about how their beliefs are so stupid and noone around them allows them to be what they want to be ;)

Just play along, go on a Mission to get some world experience, get scholarships or free tuition from your church, and slowly drift away from Mormonism when it's safe to do so without getting disowned, kicked out of your family, ostracized, and whatever else.
Don't just climb out of the frying pan and fall into the fire.

This. Ignore these goofy fedora tippers. I got a thousand dollars from my church back in 2012 and I get free money from random church patrons whenever I show up. There is no criteria for getting a church scholarship, just drop in every month or two and you'll be eligible.

Rite? I have seen SO many atheists proselytize, bitch, moan, groan, and in general act like elitist assholes who are being oppressed by the "stupidity" of those with any system of religious belief...

Dude, thanks for calling attention to what I said. I was afraid I might get sidelined if Tox came back to talk about his "athiest" (sic) acceptance.
Idiots here might not understand how much damage you can do to your social life, college and post-college life, etc by going against the church you were born into. I would think that is especially true if you are a Mormon in Utah. It's like being Catholic in Italy, Jewish in Israel, Shia Islam in Iran. When you're on the inside, you are in their good graces and they will help you to make things happen. If you toe the line, people can literally ruin your life to use you as an example of bad behavior.

I've noticed whenever you're talking shit about me, it usually has something how we used to argue about atheism. There's a thousand stupid and obnoxious things I do on a regular basis and you pick the thing I haven't done since 2012. Stop with your petty nonsense and just block out my posts. I'm sure there's a script that allows you to filter certain users.

"God is not the author of confusion, its man." If they won't listen to your reasoning as you sit down and have a heart to heart about them and why it just ain't your thing, you gotta show them you can still be a happy, fulfilling and good person without the church.
I recommend scoping the fuck out of Joseph Campbell's "The Power of Myth" and use that stuff as casual conversation points with them. About the parallels between Christianity and even older religions, and why they maintain a connection to us in positivity. About what it means to be spiritual, and to possibly better understand how to emote your feelings on the matter to them...how to better word it to them without being confrontational or sacrilegious. They probably never learned about Native American tales of legends and the valuable wisdoms and teachings they carried, and maybe upon hearing them from you, they'll go "Hey, thats kind of neat. Well, at least you're learning about spirituality, maybe we'll back off."
Either way, its a fascinating study, and it could provide some conversational leverage whenever they start mindlessly guilting you into complying with tradition. Bottom line, though, you're not a slave...and one day you may tune out the guilt altogether, and you won't have that weight looming over your shoulders as you relax and be happy and comfortable with yourself. It'll take time, so be patient.

I haven't made any fallacious comments about atheism in years. The fedora tipping nonsense is just memespouting and not me showing legitimate hatred towards the atheist community.
Look, man. Someone's dumping the Archie Sonic comics on /v/. I think Ian Flynn is there taking questions. And I doubt the OP appreciates our drama leaking into his thread. Nothing's getting accomplished here so let's just wrap this up.

Wow, that sounds so wise and considered, even though it's completely idiotic. People shouldn't live a lie and participate in religious organizations that they have no particular connection with. It's disingenuous, and there are many other ways to get life experience.

Heres one for your brain stem bud, and without a need to get into it, you have a lot to learn about how to be happy before you can tote your chest like you're trying to do
Do what you want op, dont let others tell you where you will find happiness, open your mind to possibility and i promise you, happiness will find you rather then you trying to find it
Allow them to tell you, like what religion does, and you will never be happy
Follow your heart and mind, and anything will be possible

Except that if you actually went to church and got to know the people there, you'd discover that aside from the self-righteous ultraconservative "my business will refuse you service based on my religion" people, most of them are very down-to-earth and warmhearted people. And the rest are some form of an Agnostic church-goer who doesn't buy the whole package. And then you'd discover that the reason most of them are religious is that it ties a social atmosphere into their desire to live a healthy, moral, and fulfilling lifestyle.
He's not going to end up getting kicked out for sitting there twiddling his thumbs while they douse the Flame of the Ancients with Blood of a Phoenix or something just because he's not a strictly religious person. You attend, you smile and make eye contact, you get scholarships, and you pat yourself on the back after college.

I mean, on the plus side, Mormon life isn't all that bad...your wife will be super loyal, and the benefits can be pretty sweet...but the church life is waaayyy too controlling.
My Dad was a Mormon, with two kids during his first marriage. He had been a stage actor, on tour for six weeks wit Mickey Rooney, and now he was getting higher paying gigs that might necessitate him being on set a lot. He figured the church lifestyle would be good to ensure the two kids would be looked after and safe while he was on the road or away from home when he worked. The church did not appreciate the fact that he was acting, and in fact wanted him to drop that shit and devote everything to the church.
But the acting gigs were putting meals on the table, and the church was not. The church was costing money when he was in a situation where he needed to work. He took it as the church forcing him to choose between his family or the faith, so naturally, he dropped the Mormon lifestyle and continued working.
My oldest brothers turned out just fine, and my Dad has been a voice actor for over three decades now.

Not the least of which, controlling what you eat, drink, say, do...if anything, tell them you'd rather have the freedom.
