Supposedly started by a couple of college graduates, "Yik Yak" is an app that allows for anonymous users to post general-interest content under 200 words per post which can be viewed by anyone within a 5-mile radius. It was designed as a sort of "private Twitter" for colleges, but has since seen extensive use at the high school and middle school levels, leading to bullying, bomb threats, suicides, etc. In fact, my high school is having a mandatory assembly on it tomorrow. T_T The app is only 4 months old, yet it has caused a lot of trouble. Some people think it's still useful, though, and that once students are educated about how to use it responsibly it will be the next SnapChat! :O You can find more info on it here:

So, what do you think, guys? Is Yik Yak a nuisance, or the future of social media? You decide, my friends! ;D

It's a freedom for anyone to use it. If you can't take responsibility for what you use then don't use it at all.
It's like countless other apps. Why focus on only one?
My school had a huge Yikes Yak problem a few weeks ago everyone was using it to talk shit about each other. It was so much fun

When will elderly technophobic people stop trying to be educators
never heard of it but i can see how much of a problem it will be especially when my town finds out about
It really seems like it could turn out alright or really badly, depending on the people in your area. I'm gonna download it right now, might post back here later if I have an opinion.
Holy shit that is fucking awesome.

Yeah, it sounds like a terrible combination between Twitter and 4chan. I might get it for my phone.
