Now this was only out of 1,300 people, so I doubt this indicates anything. It can't be hard to track down 1,300 soccer moms and basement dwellers.

"They include the theory that the government knows cell phones cause cancer but does nothing about it"
Is that a conspiracy theory?

I believe that Hospitals are diseased cesspools which increase your exposure to microorganisms and viruses capable of putting your health at risk.

I also believe that medical malpractice is a leading cause of death in the first world.

I also believe that pharmaceutical companies are profit-driven entities which create innovative substances and then abuse intellectual property rights laws, lobby to get laws changed to weight in their favor, and often refuse to produce unprofitable medicines that could otherwise save lives.

But these aren't conspiracy theories as much as they are well-documented fact.

I tend to agree, especially on the subject on pharmaceutical companies. I've taken a few senior level university courses on the medical industry in general, and the more I learn the more disgusted I am with the state of modern medicine, specifically surrounding the wholly corrupt money-hungry companies that produce our pills.

The way in which they've manipulated the legal system, utilizing precedents that were wholly unrelated to slap copyrights on biologically occurring chemical compounds is absolutely disturbing. Nevermind the constant lobbying against alternative medicines (i.e, Marijuana probably the biggest target), and other potentially life-saving drugs getting thrown under the bus for the simple purposes of profit. Huge, inflated and gluttonous profit.

To call these sorts of things 'conspiracy theories' undermines the credulity of fact and truth, and simply furthers the ideological discourse of deception and power these companies feed off of. And what's worse? I don't think it'll ever stop.

Yes, because of all of the sterilization of tools, hand sanitizers, and so is a breeding ground for diseases, and not the sick patients that actually spread the disease. Not to mention the fact that not everyone reacts to the IVs and medicine the same way, I take it that you haven't been to a hospital very much.

I also believe that medical malpractice is a leading cause of death in the first world.

Care to elaborate?

I also believe that pharmaceutical companies are profit-driven entities which create innovative substances and then abuse intellectual property rights laws, lobby to get laws changed to weight in their favor, and often refuse to produce unprofitable medicines that could otherwise save lives.

You do realize that there are plenty of generic medications that work very similarly to what the regular pharmaceutical companies make, right? Frankly, a lot of what you say are mostly fear based conspiracy theorist exaggeration. Maybe you should post reliable sources if you're going to make any sort of claims.

But these aren't conspiracy theories as much as they are well-documented fact.

Are you that stupid? You can't just say stuff like that without credible proof, though you have a history of doing just that. Popular opinion =/= fact, and you're a dumbass if you truly think otherwise without proof.

I can be stubborn or exaggerate my actions in defense of my own health without feeling shame. It's survival of the fittest, remember.

You won't find much to the contrary if you just scratch the surface with Google. The CDC does a good job with tracking the number of diseases that cannot be eliminated by its own sterilization requirements. And reviewing the possible numbers of diseases which have previously been under control and evolved a resistence to the current procedures. And apologizing for previous errors which complicated the healthcare of otherwise healthy people by contact with equipment that wasn't required to be sterilized.

And haven't you been hitting the wardrum about the Trans Pacific Partnership? Don't you know that the TPP is part of an attempt to secure international intellectual property rights for drug research companies which are being infringed upon by low cost generics manufacturers?

Not really a conspiracy, that's just called capitalism. You'd have to be an idiot to believe the people selling the pills don't want as many people as possible to take them regardless of what happens to them.

J. Eric Oliver, the study's lead author from University of Chicago, said people may believe in conspiracy theories because they're easier to understand than complex medical information.

Oh for fuck's sake. This is about politics, not science!

To be honest, I've not heard much of TPP before, so I honestly don't know much about it. From what I do know is that there is a lot of opposition to them from a variety of industries and people who oppose it because it would kill off certain businesses. Some of it might have a legitimate or at least understandable case, but I got to imagine that there are a lot of it is either exaggerated boogeyman type paranoia, or it's so broad and vague in it's actual enforcement that it won't do much at all. Considering how unpopular it is, it's basically the international version of SOPA, and we all knew how that turned out.

Aliens are behind it all and I've held them in my very own hands. Remember the first time you did mushrooms? There are aliens go to the desert and beg their forgivness.

The thing to remember is what they exist for, it is true that the chance of death in a hospital is very high, infact it has more micromorts than a dose of heroin. But without the hospital the deaths would be overwhelmingly higher. The same with medical malpractice that it does kill a lot of people, but if doctors and nurses were refused from helping in such ways then the amount of deaths would be countless times higher. Then again with pills without them many people would die or have worse lives, even if some of them are useless or do little.

To save lives you need to walk a fine line on the edge of death, and it is so easy to fall over the side. But without it the first world would have an incredibly bad death count. It is absolutely true that deaths are caused by this going wrong, but anyone claiming it is wrong to use hospitals, or those wanting to sue doctors for trying to help them, or people trying to stop taking pills, any of that is only going to make matters so, so much worse than they are.

I would gladly be taken into a hospital and have that extra chance of death rather than refuse to be taken there and almost certainly die as a result.
