Yooo gotta see this...! Mar. 14th, 2014 @ 05:20 PM Reply

If you don't follow any artists on NG, consult the wiki to learn how. It basically involves clicking the hearts next to the names of people who made the stuff you like.

If you see something you like in this post, be sure to follow the artists involved! We have a big overhaul to our feeds system launching SOON.

For practice, click the heart on Sakupen's page. He is releasing a new game this week and you'll be the first to know! I said in my last post that we would give him the greenlight when he reaches 8,500 fans but that might have been a bit crazy... Unless you guys can make it happen...?

danmarkowitz has released two episodes of Nwar so far, they are getting tons of love from viewers but overall viewership should be higher. Don't let the black and white thumbnails fool you; it's a fun series! They even get screened at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater each month.

This was his first animation on NG so you might want to follow him and see what he does next. He just has 35 fans at the moment so you can get in early.

If you're wondering why we have a Christmas movie on the front page, it won the latest Draw with Jazza animation showcase. If you like dark and twisted stuff, you definitely want to see it through to the end.

It was made by suprofound for the 2013 Newgrounds Annual Tournament of Animation. NATA 2014 starts on May 3rd!

Also I'm aware people are tired of Flappy Bird games. There was a whole FlappyJam which inspired lots of people to make them and a lot of them actually turned out to be pretty cool. This one by bumblebirds is a cool mashup between Flappy and Sonic!

We ultimately plan to have a "Play All" option for audio in your feed, so you can launch it as a playlist and let all the latest songs by your favorite artists play in another tab while you do shit. I noticed I was always checking the games, movies and art in my feed but not making as much time for the music because it's a different sort of experience. Eventually I'll be able to catch up on my favorites while coding or reading the forums.

Finally, here's something kinda different by DanJohansen:

Well, while Velocity Wings is a fast-paced Flappy clone, I still believe that at 40+ points, Bouncy Cat is the fastest Flappy clone. Just a thought.

Adding someone as a friend let's you know when they're online when you check your Friends list on the NG Social part of the site. Following them by clicking their heart lets you know when they release new content or makes a new blog, something friending a person does not do.

good stuff. alot of attention shoudl also go to indie flash artists like this guy:

http://radiotubeclock.newgrounds.com/
(he is pretty known in the portal, but his series, ''On the Bridge'', never got the series page it always deserved, and he has won more than 6 awards for this.)

http://dekathos.newgrounds.com/
this guy. he makes funny movies, yet he never gets on the radar.

also, we should focus more attention in both music, and artwork/drawings artists....(in new, or unnoticed artists, that is)

Looking forward to seeing what that's all about!! ...but what's the difference between adding someone as a friend and following/clicking their heart?

The Friends system was more forward-looking, which is why it doesn't have a lot of utility at the moment. One way it is used currently is to rank your high scores compared to your friends instead of the entire userbase. The new feed system also includes notifications concerning your friends - the good news being that it's heavily customizable so you can choose what you want to see.

In the future as NG has more real-time components, the friends list will become more and more useful.

Are there plans to upgrade the project system so we can discuss things privately and the whole group can see it? (not a 'chat' exactly, but a 'private message board/commenting' sort of set up) Right now it seems the only options we have are the public forums, lots of crisscrossing/duplicate pm's or other sites/apps (like tinychat or skype).

Goldfish had taken some steps towards private forums. It would still be awesome to get this integrated, just not sure WHEN that can happen at the moment. We also still want to move the Art Portal into the project system, so you can have multi-author art and any other beneficial project system features.

Have you considered an option to pm a 'group' that consists of all the members of a project? Users could even create a project of 'friends' to send out one pm instead of 12 (or 1200, depending on how many friends they have.)

We have discussed mass PM methods over the years, we'll ultimately have to decide how useful that would be compared to improvements in the feed and things like private forums.

It would be cool if the audio on a users page played the same way it does in a search results view (by clicked the disc icon) ...and even cooler if you could vote in that view. (That wasn't a question, just a comment!)

Would be slick to have a better audio embed overall... HMMMMMM Good point about the in-page playing too.

Ain't long now, and he'll get his greenlight. He only needs 262 more fans, which, given how long ago this latest news post was put up, shouldn't take much longer.

As to focusing more on the Audio and Art Portals, I couldn't agree more. I only have sixteen fans for what I do, which, with as much humility as I can convey in a statement like this, doesn't come close to the attention my work should be receiving. Hell, my friend HowSplendid only has twenty five fans for his drawings, which are pretty much the equivalent of my music. NG has always been dominated by Flash artists, despite the fact that those same artists usually need musicians and sketch artists to give them something to work with. We should really get more eyes than what we're already afforded.

I've been a musician since I was 16. To say I am not is to deny what Ronnie Martin is, what Scott Brown is, what Goukisan, DjSc00p, and many other NG musicians are. So don't.

No, canned. Or rather, cage trapped and terminated. I wouldn't eat a possum, they eat roadkill :|
