Honors classes 2014-03-07 15:00:45 Reply

I just got my schedule for the next school year.

Biology I Honors
Biology II Honors
Geometry
US History II Honors
Programing II Honors
College prep Language Arts A
French II Honors
Wellness

My dad is excited, and I'm really happy I could get into good classes this year. But my mother isn't happy at all. She thinks those classes would be too hard for me. I mean, I don't try very hard now, and I get straight A's in my academic classes. I fell asleep in my History class three times and still managed to get a final grade of an A+

So I definitely think I can do it.

I can change my classes now, so does anyone have any advice for me? I've never been in honors classes, and I'm not sure what I want to do.

You are not intelligent or hard working enough to pull out As in Honors classes. If you were, you wouldn't have to ask people for advice.

Doesn't look too bad.
Just let her know that honors classes in high school really aren't hard at all.

Smart kid classes, basically.
You get harder work, but B's and A's are worth more on your report cards.
Teachers recommend them to students with high grades.

Just keep close to your classmates and network with them if you need help. Honors classes are usually a lot smaller, so learn to cooperate as a team and you should be good to go.

Why are you taking Bio I and Bio II at the same time?

Was wondering this, too. Probably both semester classes.

Bio I first semester, then Bio II second semester.

That's pretty good that you're taking them. If you made A's in your regular classes, you're probably set to take higher level courses. Even if they turn out to be kinda hard, as long as you kinda look like you're trying, the lowest you can get is a C which is probably about the same as making a B in regular classes, but colleges really like the fact that you took the challenge.

Just make sure you're really ready. I took a bunch of AP classes in my sophomore year and it completely ruined me and I almost failed all the ones I took (pretty sure my average score for my world history and English classes were flat 70's, the bare minimum of passing - and I only passed because my teachers were really nice and felt bad for me). It kinda made me never want to try again in school cause I felt like I fucked up so bad.

I think you should try and convince yourself out. Lower the expectations.

Honors/Pre-AP/AP classes are a bitch sometimes. They look really good on college transcripts though. I took AP World History this year and loved it, but I fucked up and now I have to retake it to get the credit. I'm also taking Pre-AP English so that should be fun. I hope you can handle all those classes at once. You might have to give up a little sleep and your social life, but that's your choice.

I Guess you must love Biology. I got put in Honors Bio when I didn't even need it. My teacher teaches it like a fucking college class. His notes are hella' fast during his lecture. I guess that's a good thing though so we can study with what he says later. I don't really learn anything in the class. I study all that shit at home. Congrats on the classes, bro.

Fuck those kinds of classes. I knew kids in high school who took those and they treated everybody like shit because they thought they were gods. Personality means more now than it ever has. Just remember that anybody can get good grades. That's how some of the kids I knew were, they were like ''Oh, let's just copy off of each other and shit'' It's not all you think it's cracked up to be.

speak for yourself

i take honors classes and treat nobody differently, and instead i talk to most people with a neutral level of friendship.

You're one of the nicer ones then. I've known people who were assholes in High School just because they could take some college classes.

let it be known that most of these people end up doing nothing with their lives

academic skill proves absolutely nothing besides the fact that you can sit in a classroom and learn a large margin of material that will not help you exist in the outside world. finding your dreams to be true and becoming the change that you would like to see in the world all depends on how badly you want it.

persistence and patience pays off

Try telling that to all of that honor kids in high school right now. They might learn a thing or two because right now they all think they're the smartest shit right now, but they all think they're the top of the food chain just because they can take a few honors classes

Are You Sure People Have Ever Put You Down For Not Taking Honors Courses? Maybe You Imagine They Are Putting You Down & Over Analyzing The Way They Act & Talk Because Deep Down You Would Expect Them To Look Down On You . . . After All They Are Better Than You. A lot of people I know who took honors classes copied off each other. How is that being better in any way? They'll just fuck up in the future because they can't rely on themselves.
