I do. In fact, I only make music when I feel that way. Luckily I feel like that very frequently.

Well, sometimes I feel this way when I'm working on a project and one of these things happen:
-Game developers/producers/directors love the track(s) you made, and then they change their mind and scrap everything you did and change the entire aesthetic of the game and you basically have to start over.

-When creators you work with can't make up their mind about the style of music they want for their project

-Working with film/animation; You scored a huge long scene about 4-10 minutes long and then they decide to change the scene by making cuts/additions which throws off your score entirely.

-Your DAW crashes, you lose more than an hour of work and there was no backup save. I guess the equivalent for working on manuscript paper is that you leave your manuscript notebook with your entire score at a coffee shop or something...

-When you are working on the very last part of your track and you are just uninspired to come up with a decent ending and you just cop-out and fade out a loop -_______________________-

On a more serious note, I'm sure there are some individuals that do it. What's the point, though? And what causes it?

My best track (wake up honey) on the TMFO3 album was composed with wet eyes, and i sometimes still choke when i listen to it cause its so personal and existential.

I'm the total opposite. Most of my best work these last 8 years was the result of feeling shitty. Oddly enough, when I'm happy there's zero inspiration. It's been six months since I got home from a year longs sabbatical in Oakland. I've been shit eatingly happy ever since and the music has stopped flowing like it used to. The lack of new music kind of makes me sad, but it's not the right kind of sad...

I absolutely suck at creating sad music. Actually, I might not suck, but I never really try. When I'm feeling bad, I don't do music.

When I'm sad my creativity shoots through the roof.

That's usually the case for me too. If I'm actually depressed I can't even pluck a guitar string.

I sometimes get somewhat "depressed" (used lightly) after spending a long time trying to come up with some dramatic/tragic chord progressions.

That, combined with the validation complex that ensues after each track I finish can get me down.

Tragedy in life is one of my favorite motivators for making music. Whenever I think I should be doing some new songs, I get myself involved in some situations which make me suffer from the inside. Try it if you feel demotivated.

The greatest works usually belong to artists who in some way were hurt or broken. Feeling like dandy strawberry cream with apple pie usually does not create a masterpiece. It does not necessarily not work to write happy. Pharrel Williams did great with his "Happy" but it is not nearly as good as Eric Claptons "Tears in Heaven". Mostly people get moved by depth or grieve. They can relate to that and I suppose no one really feels any desire to relate to happiness like "Yeah. I've been there. I know that feeling... Happyyyyy... happyyyyyy.." I don't think so. It helps none. It's just good fun and that's all. For the good stuff : Keep crying.

My music is the sound of my tears since I don't release liquid from my eyeballs in reality.
