Tl;Dr: Satires use Texas to represent republicans and proceed to bash it ruthlessly despite its immense diversity in both peoples and political view points and I find it abhorrent that they use their shows as political weapons because it affects how people in general view Texas as evident by comment sections in places like CNN. Satires w/ political axes to grind misinform the masses and do vast injustices to its people and its truly diverse nature.

*sigh* I know I'm going to get shit for this, trolls and ignorance galore, blah blah blah. And, honestly, I just.. don't care anymore. Well, I DO care, obviously, but I just...am done getting out right mad at it. Its more like acceptance now, and then complete disappointment in the media, followed by indignity at the hands of the media, like the scathing blow of a mighty injustice. If you're trying to figure out what in the fuck I'm talking about, well, just read the title, pal.

So I was watching the latest Archer, right, he's transporting drugs through Texas to find a dealer near Mexico. And Archer takes 2 rather insulting cracks at Texas that goes along the lines of everybody in Texas hates living here...its TEXAS (implying there's something so inherently wrong with Texas, people would turn to drugs to forget they live here). It was a small passing jokes, I really shouldn't have gotten offended, and yet, after surfing through CNN's comments section with articles sparsely related to the state before hand, I dunno, it was the straw that broke it and thus I became actually very offended by it.

I guess you could say I'm just fed up with how the Media portrays Texas in every single satire I can think of that's commented on Texas, just ignorance and slander and more shit falling out of their mouths.

Most of those satire's would retort "we hate on everybody equally"
To which I would reply: "No, you don't. You say that like its true but you don't, you don't take cracks at democrats or liberals and you don't take cracks at the North East or California. You use your show as a political weapon and any jokes you DO take on the above are glancing at best, you don't MEAN them like you mean the cracks you take at the south, in particular, Texas."
And its viewers would say "just take a joke man"
To which I would retort "How many 'jokes' am I suppose to take when they boil down to: 'the place you live in and its people are ignorant, racist and stupid.' Am I suppose to just take those kinds of 'jokes' when they are so egregiously wrong and misinforming?"

Sometimes small things like this get to me. It really shouldn't, doesn't really matter what writers in California think, but it just does sometimes. I get tired of taking crap like this man, it's like if somebody was telling really personal "yo mamma" jokes and just kept ragging on her and ragging on her again and again. Stops being funny after awhile, ya know?

Adam Reed should have continued Frisky Dingo instead of these new shows.

It's a general rule of thumb that people are only patriotic in potentially worthless places. You wouldn't have to be defensive about it, if the place wasn't so shit in the first place. Patriotism is a protection of our homeland, and if our homeland was at all efficient to us, we wouldn't be affected by these statements, but instead laugh at them. It only hurts because it's bloody true, and now here you are to reassure yourself again that your homeland isn't as it is depicted. Patriots are like parrots, and that's why nothing new is ever heard from them -- the reason why? Everything they think and say about their country is a compensatory act -- nothing more.

You do not make examples, you make excuses; you do not solve problems, you shift problems; you do not stand behind your statements, you stand behind your stasis.

It's essentially the same as Europeans bashing America. Most of them know all Americans aren't as stupid as they like to say, they just like to feel like they're better than someone else, and it's nice to talk some shit at times. Most Americans know Texas isn't full of dumb rednecks or anything, but they just sort of want somewhere else to point the finger when people talk about "stupid Americans."

Texas has a very vocal conservative population. Not everyone in Texas is conservative, of course, but it's difficult to not associate the state with Republicans.

I think he meant how archer is a shitty parody of deathstroke. I don't see how they connect ether and archer is a good show.

I completely understand how you feel. It does get irritating being constantly referred to as an ignorant redneck after a while, but reacting negatively to said jokes can actually make the situation worse. Not all the time mind you, but in some cases the people making these kind of jokes loves to receive a negative reaction from the people they're making fun of. I feel the best response to these kind of jokes is for everyone to not react to it positively or negatively. Then the people who keep making these "Texas jokes" will have to come up with something different if they want some kind of response, and will probably drop Texas out of the equation all together.

Sadly, it's easier said then done.

That's kinda bullshit. LOTS of satires in America rag on liberals, and I can name three movies off the top of my head that hate on L.A. HARD. Thing is, compared to the rest of the world you guys are really quite right wing so of course there are more right wing nutters than there are left wing ones.

Besides, Tom Wolfe already did such a good job ripping on the liberals I don't feel there's that much left to say.

Every great kingdom in history ever has been very patriotic. Peaceful tribes and federations, less so.

Patriotism doesn't say anything about a nation's worth - it says a lot about the national psyche and idea of self. Of course, this pride can lead to a fall by overstretching your resources (see: Rome, Napoleonic France, the British Empire and America after Vietnam), but you're putting the cart before the horse brah.

Texas is a very big state and it probably does have large amounts of the kinds of people it is mocked for even if it also has large amounts of other kinds of people as well.

You probably could easily find a gun-toting yee-haw cowboy hat-wearing country music-listening American flag-waving Republican-voting xenophobic fat racist in Texas even if that doesn't accurately describe everyone there.

Just like you can probably easily find a drug-dealing murderer in LA even if that doesn't accurately describe everyone there.

It's hypocrisy my friend. Some people you can make fun of until they kill themselves and some people will charge you for hate crimes the first gripe you mention about them. You're just going to have to live with that mentality for the rest of your life if you don't want to become the villain of whatever liberal organization decides that you can't say this or that.

I also find a lot of the Texas hate annoying. I'm completely in love with my home state, but I know it's not perfect. I know it can be much better. And I know it has its fair share of terrible people. But that's not Texas' fault. Being in Texas isn't what makes people bad. But at the same time, a lot of people make fun of different places. Take Detroit or New Jersey for example. You can find a plethora of hate for those places in the media and on the internet. You just have to take satire in stride. I haven't seen all of the episode of Archer you're talking about, but I have seen some of it and I get where you're coming from. You just can't take it too close to heart.

There's lots of fun portrayals of Texas too like King of the Hill. It has colorful characters yes but Hank does his best to instill good values in his family and lives his life by his morals. And then there's the Family Guy where the family hides out in Texas. I found the portrayal of Texas in that episode to be hilarious. As far as the news attacking the politics is concerned, it's the news. They hate everyone one. This goes against what you said in your original post, but it's true. Texas is just the embodiment of a lot of things they hate so they will talk about it a lot. Just....relax. Texas is great, and anyone who thinks otherwise probably hasn't lived here or lived her for long.

Holy hell, wasn't expecting most people to take this thread so well and actually...sympathize. That's fucking weird. I expected more Nor-like comments (blatant trolling attempts) or Insanctuary cynicism or YB sarcasm. Thanks guys.

As noted at the bottom, it is, in fact, a rant. Just some personal steam letting off because the idea had been traveling with me for a while and whenever that happens I like to write about it. So thanks for taking it so well. People can talk shit about where they live or other places they've never been all day long, just classic internet cynicism, but I take pride in where I live (I find it hard to find other people who are proud of anything), I think its worth defending the name of because I see so many great things in and around this state. Well, one could write entire volumes and complete works with thousands of pages of all the great things in Texas, so I'll end it there. Pleasant surprise.
